    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

In light of the Aaron Rodgers Achilles tear, the NFLPA spent last week demanding that all 30 NFL venues switch to natural grass surfaces. We'll discuss why this is not only not possible, but why recency bias and social media have made these overreactions so common.

Next, we discuss Microsoft declaring the end-of-support date for Windows 10, what this means for users across the spectrum, and why switching to Windows 11 may not be the answer for most.

Also, we'll tell you about how Linux and its many different distributions may be the solution for getting extra life and use out of that Windows 10 machine.

Finally, our Gem of the Gem City this week takes a visit to South Patterson Boulevard in Midtown, the home of some of the best brick-oven food you can find in Dayton, Old Scratch Pizza.

Plenty on the table, this week.

    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

Disney and Spectrum reach an agreement at an oddly convenient time. We'll tell you the parameters, which networks got cut, and who Disney was ACTUALLY worried about upsetting if a deal weasn't reached.

Also, ODI cricket is picking up around the globe as the top ten cricket nations prepare for the ICC Men's ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5. We'll talk about who's in, where the event is being held, and why it may pose a problem for one particular matchup.

Next, the iPhone 15 release announcement was held just before we opened up shop today, and...well...there isn't much to cover, but we'lll cover what's there.

Finally, we wraqp up with our weekly Gem of the Gem City, as I give a thank you and well wishes to Joe and Susan Bavaro as they prepare to sell one of my favorite establishments: The Oregon Express.

It's much lighter fare, this week, so don't worry. You won't leave feeling too full.

    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

Chaos ensues after ALL IN at Wembley, and All Elite Wrestling can't stay out of its own way. I'll talk about the many failures of all parties involved; especially those of Tony Khan, who demonstrated both profound ineptitude and unparalleled cowardice in how he decided to terminate the contract of CM Punk last week, effectively killing one of his most reliably-drawing markets.

I'll also be talking about how his "Executive Vice Presidents" and their behavior hve not only contributed to the problem, but how their behavior affects the workplace adversely in nearly every industry.

Next, we talk about the runaway greed of content providers; providers who are so intent on squeezing every last penny out of their consumers to correct their own fiscal mismanagement, that they're only digging themselves into deeper and deeper holes.

Also, we cover how to score the most display real estate for your computing dollar, and wrap it up with a Gem of the Gem City that has been one of my most reliable go-tos since it opened in 2011 as we tell you about Lucky's Taproom and Eatery.

It's another fat one, so I hope you've made room!

    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

The show returns after a two week break. In the opening segment, I'll explain what led to the break, and what I needed to do to figure out some things about the world, and about myself.

Next, we'll get deep about the state of discourse in our society, and how Twitter/X and its many derivatives have not only damages discourse, but affected the way we behave as a culture. It most certainly is NOT an improvement.

Also, I'll pay respects to three public figures we lost last week, and how what I discussed in the second segment led to an absolutely classless display by users in addressing the death of the youngest of the three.

Finally, our Gem of the Gem City this week is a change of pace from the usual, as I'll tell you about why I love the Dayton Metro Library, and all the work they've done in modernizing the library experience.

It's a heavy show with a lot of substance this week, but know that I'm gratreful that you're here for it.

    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

BONUS COVERAGE: The chaos in collegiate athletics reached a boiling point over the last week; to the point that the Pac 12 Conference is effectively EXTINCT. I'll cover all the fallout that came to a head in just seven stinking days.

Next, the podcasting world is a packed market; both in content and in con men. One man ripped off his clients of MILLIONS of dollars, including the one man in Louisville you NEVER want to cross. Never run a racket on the man known for his racquets.

Also, I discuss the frustrating problem of brand loyalty seemingly always deteriorating into brand fealty, and why this trend has ALWAYS been bad for business.

Plus, I'll tell you where to find plenty of processing power in a mini desktop without crushing your budget.

Finally, the Gem of the Gem City this week is a place that prides itself on being an anachronism in the best way possible, by providing the Dependable Old Time Service many of you may miss. I'll take you through the wonderful time capsule that is Dot's Market, and how they've managed to remain strong through seventy years of questionable industry change.

We run a little long today, but we're not filling you up on bread, at least.

    THIS WEEK ON THE PROGRAM:

MasterCard announced last week that it will no longer accept transactions for marijuana or marijuana dispensaries, despite it being legal in many states. I will tell you why this is a damned dangerous precedent that could be used as a weapon, regardless of the side of the political aisle on which you sit.

Next, college sports has seen a sudden flux of movement over the last two seasons that we thought had been settled a decade ago. I'll tell you about who's going where, and why the only number that truly matters is the one on the television rights contracts.

Plus, we'll be pushing back the desktop buying guide back one week to pay tribute to a comedy legend and his crowning achievement: one of the greatest gimmicks in the history of entertainment.

Finally, we celebrate the tenth anniversary of Dayton's craft beer renaissance by telling you about one of its pioneers: Toxic Brew Company.

So much to talk about, and we'll get it all in in 75 minutes.

    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

For eighteen years, EA Sports and Madden have been the exclusive producer of games for the National Football League. This hasn't been what's best for business. I'll talk about what led to it, how it has affected the quality of the product, and what, if anything, can be done to pressure EA to make a better product.

Also, the USA gets its first taste of domestic T20 cricket with Major League Cricket, and it how it has vastly exceeded the expectations of the league's organizers, the fans, and even myself.

Next, I'll tell you about why it might still be a good idea to have a home printer, and I'll tell you about a few choices that will give you what you need to produce great documents from the convenience of home.

Finally, we salute one of the longest lasting Gems of the Gem City (and my favorite patio in all of Dayton to visit) in the Oregon Historic District, The Trolley Stop.

  • Too Many Slices, Not Enough Pie
    Jul 18 2023

    ON THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM:

We're cutting right to the heart of my criticisms of the Worldwide Leader's decision to jump the shark, along with taking a slice out of Threads, Meta's low-rent response to Twitter.

But I have to ask: why fawn over a new thing that's just a carbon copy of the thing you hated so much? Guess there's a fair bit to chew on, there, huh?

Also, we talk about some quality smartphones that give you great features and performance without slicing a huge wad of dough out of your wallet.

We'll also be serving up a spicy slice of scathing commentary about the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes, and about the greedy executives who want the whole damned pie, to themselves.

Finally, we put all the preceding pizza puns to bed and get literal with this week's Gem of the Gem City: The Flyiing Pizza.

So grab your parm and plenty of napkins, because this crust is STUFFED, this week!

Sorry, I couldn't resist that last pun. Come feed your ears.
