SMPH. Still Brilliant. Still Stupid.

By: Ami Cooke
  • Summary

  • I just can't quit you. Maybe it's my need to inform. Maybe it's my need to entertain. It's probably more to do with my need for validation. Who knows? I sure don't. Regardless, SMPH is back, and I'm not going anywhere. Come feed your ears.

    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

In light of the Aaron Rodgers Achilles tear, the NFLPA spent last week demanding that all 30 NFL venues switch to natural grass surfaces. We'll discuss why this is not only not possible, but why recency bias and social media have made these overreactions so common.

Next, we discuss Microsoft declaring the end-of-support date for Windows 10, what this means for users across the spectrum, and why switching to Windows 11 may not be the answer for most.

Also, we'll tell you about how Linux and its many different distributions may be the solution for getting extra life and use out of that Windows 10 machine.

Finally, our Gem of the Gem City this week takes a visit to South Patterson Boulevard in Midtown, the home of some of the best brick-oven food you can find in Dayton, Old Scratch Pizza.

Plenty on the table, this week.

    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

Disney and Spectrum reach an agreement at an oddly convenient time. We'll tell you the parameters, which networks got cut, and who Disney was ACTUALLY worried about upsetting if a deal weasn't reached.

Also, ODI cricket is picking up around the globe as the top ten cricket nations prepare for the ICC Men's ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5. We'll talk about who's in, where the event is being held, and why it may pose a problem for one particular matchup.

Next, the iPhone 15 release announcement was held just before we opened up shop today, and...well...there isn't much to cover, but we'lll cover what's there.

Finally, we wraqp up with our weekly Gem of the Gem City, as I give a thank you and well wishes to Joe and Susan Bavaro as they prepare to sell one of my favorite establishments: The Oregon Express.

It's much lighter fare, this week, so don't worry. You won't leave feeling too full.

    ON THE PROGRAM, THIS WEEK:

Chaos ensues after ALL IN at Wembley, and All Elite Wrestling can't stay out of its own way. I'll talk about the many failures of all parties involved; especially those of Tony Khan, who demonstrated both profound ineptitude and unparalleled cowardice in how he decided to terminate the contract of CM Punk last week, effectively killing one of his most reliably-drawing markets.

I'll also be talking about how his "Executive Vice Presidents" and their behavior hve not only contributed to the problem, but how their behavior affects the workplace adversely in nearly every industry.

Next, we talk about the runaway greed of content providers; providers who are so intent on squeezing every last penny out of their consumers to correct their own fiscal mismanagement, that they're only digging themselves into deeper and deeper holes.

Also, we cover how to score the most display real estate for your computing dollar, and wrap it up with a Gem of the Gem City that has been one of my most reliable go-tos since it opened in 2011 as we tell you about Lucky's Taproom and Eatery.

It's another fat one, so I hope you've made room!
