About this listen
Okiku wants vengeance...and she gets it. Whenever there's a monster hurting a child - the same way she was hurt 300 years ago in Japan - her spirit is there to deliver punishment. But one American boy draws her like no other. The two are pulled into a world of eerie doll rituals and dark Shinto exorcisms that will take them from the American Midwest to the remote valleys and shrines of Aomori, Japan. The boy is not a monster, but something evil writhes beneath his skin, trapped by a series of intricate tattoos. Can Okiku protect him? Or is her presence only bringing more harm?

surprisingly excellent
A great tale. Performed beautifully. I enjoyed the characters, the international experiences and the pace of this book. I kept imagining how amazing it could be as a movie. I would not normally listen to horror, and I'm not sure this was horror but a gripping ghost story nonetheless.

Scary, yet brilliant!
So scary I didn't read it at night. And yes, I loved it, not because of the scaryness, but because its a fabulous story, we'll written, and we'll narrated.

Disturbing, horrifying and absolutely brilliant
I have recently discovered Rin Chupeco and I am in love with her writing. This is one of the best stories I have listened to. The narrator is also fantastic. Give this book a listen. I highly recommend it. Thank you Rin for another wonderful story.

Amazing
After all the films I've watched, most of which I'm afraid to say I didn't really think much of, this made sense, and I really enjoyed it from being to end. Thank you Audible, yet again.

Highly Haunting Fable
4.5 stars
Just the perfect amount of creepy and haunted.
The audiobook was very well done, and I also really enjoyed the voice of the main protagonist. Definitely one I can see myself rereading for fun.
It was everything I could want from a story about the girl from the well.

Great story
I like how it took stories like The Ring/Ringu and completely turned them into something so different yet strangely familiar. It shows a different side to a vengeful spirit and it is a welcome change.
As someone who loves Japanese culture, I enjoyed the different elements you don’t get within western literature.
There is nothing I dislike about this book, I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for a horror story.

A good listen
Well worth a listen, not particularly spooky or scary, but a good story to listen to in the background while doing something else.

Superb tale of revenge and redemption
I absolutely loved this book. Rin Chupeco is a very talented writer indeed, writing a book of wit and originality, respectful of the cultural origins of the tale, this story of Okiku is at times heartbreaking but yet uplifting. It is a horror novel but not exploitatively so, as so many are these days, seemingly competing for who can be the most shocking and gory. No, this one is a very sophisticated telling of Okiku's tale, with love, joy, pain, redemption, realisation, acceptance. All of that packed into a very classy novel.
A wonderful listen too, with perfect narration by Andi Arndt, who I had not come across before this book. Thoroughly enjoyable, and I definitely plan to listen to it again.
