Tedious
Long story during which I zoned out a few times because there was a lot of drawn out descriptions of irrelevant stuff. Not as good these days as Koontz books used to be.
Also, as a British listener I cringed at little at the pronunciation of some words. My problem, not the narrator.

Quite Good
This story had mystery and intrigue in the beginning, a catastrophic conundrum in the middle, then a double climactic ending. I liked that there was scary enough build towards the mystery of the goings on inside the secret science facility. We find out the secret in nerve wracking ways, but the suspense is sorted quick too, from scary moment to scary moment. This story could have had a triple happy ending with the first being the mysterious problem they defeat, the second being that they find their way through more hurdles, but the third could have been justice served to those who deserved it that had wronged her so massively. Good suspense science fiction and fantasy story.

Not bad, but not Koontz at his best
The story is generally good, the performance excellent, but overall the book feels forced. It’s a shame, because it’s just off enough to miss out on being a classic Koontz book. Certainly worth a listen if you’re generally a Koontz fan, but where I’ve often reread his books in the past, I’m not sure I’ll be listening to this again.

Enjoyable story
I enjoyed this book by Koontz, two good main characters and a good narrator. The only down side is that I was thinking it was maybe the first of a series and it just ended! Think he could have made it much longer!

Maybe 4.5 stars; the ending was a touch disappointing
But I wouldn’t take a whole star off, so 5* it is. Walking around the house with my noise cancelling headphones in, my daughter had to tap my shoulder to get my attention, with great hilarity because I physically jumped every time. The half star would be mainly for the ending, that seemed tidied up and sorted far too easily, the last tense moment not quite near enough to the end. But after a disappointing run of ‘domestic thrillers’ that were anything but thrilling, this was a welcome relief. I’ll be reading more by this author for sure.

Not his best book
Dean has written better books, and I found the narrator’s voice irritating. Worth a listen but wouldn’t listen again.

Enjoyable but….
As a huge fan of the majority of Dean’s earlier books I have been disappointed by many of his newest books. Unfortunately, this one is not really great either. Lots of long descriptive prose that makes the story drag, followed by a shortened version of the really interesting! It’s as if he just can’t be bothered anymore..and a very disappointing ending, none of the usual stressful excitement.
