About this listen

Unfortunately, abuse happens everywhere and can come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, it can happen right in front of us, and we still won't see it, or maybe we just choose to ignore it hoping that one day it will go away on its own.

This is my true story about living with a monster - a monster whom only those in my household would have ever had the unfortunate chance to meet. The monster I called my daddy!

We cannot choose who we are related to, but we can sure as hell despise them.

My story is hard to listen to in parts, I am not going to lie, but it was even harder to live it. It has taken 35 years, but I am living proof that just because your life starts out feeling pointless and a punishment doesn't mean you have to accept it. As an adult, you are the only person in control of your life, and only you can make the changes if they are needed.

My life was in his hands for a long time! Now, you have the chance to hold my life in your own.

If my book can help just one person, then I feel that my horrible childhood might have a purpose and not just be a punishment. I will say that I have no regrets. What happened in my life has happened and can never be undone.

Abrupt Ending

Not sure how I felt about this book, it was ok but I really struggled with the narrators voice. I couldn’t place the accent and it kept changing, so I just struggled to get into the story. The ending was a little abrupt also I wasn’t expecting it.

Such a hard life for one so young! ☹️

I really enjoyed this book but it was a tough listen at times. Of course as the reader (or listener) we owe it to Sarah to hear what she had to endure from such a young age! It’s heartbreaking 💔 I read the book in a few hours, it was one of those you don’t want to put down. I enjoyed the narration too, It’s left me wanting to know how Sarah’s adult life went. I hope she is doing well 💕

Brilliant

This was heart wrenching, as I was getting into it, it stopped mid sentence, so I was not impressed, I realise I need to spend MORE money to be able to read the conclusion x !!!!!

I love how this book was written. Sarah is such a strong character and doesn't let this terrible situation break her. It was a lot more uplifting than I was expecting and I liked how the narrator did all the voices

Grasping

The story was grasping and the narrator made it come to life even more. I was always wanting to listen to more and found it easy to keep up with the different characters by their voices that helped pain what they could look like.
I Enjoyedthe story and loved the narrator!

Really interesting read

What happens in this true story is pretty upsetting stuff, but Sarah was pretty optimistic considering. By the end, although I felt sorry for her because of what she went through, I also felt like... she is strong stuff! She will be alright. I liked the narrator too

Harrowing story that's definitely worth the listen

Harrowing and at times really uncomfortable to listen to, it's nevertheless an incredibly written story, and the narration really adds to the horrific trauma of the author. I tried to pace it out because of the subject matter, but it's unflinching candour and emotional journey meant I was gripped listening to it. The narrator does a fantastic job of differentiating between characters and their respective accents, which I loved.

Riveting book

This book is so riveting that I couldn't stop listening. Finished almost in one go on day 1.
It can be graphic so if you light headed then you might need to skip some parts.
Must read and one of my favorite books
