I was born and broken in Birkenhead, abused from infancy by a network of every kind of pervert from ‘thinks it’s love’ to ‘show it hurts’. I was unwanted, beaten, sold, swapped, photographed, filmed, left for dead, corrupted, blamed, betrayed, ignored and orphaned.
But I was also born with a fire inside me. I call it my Phoenix Fire. I am no victim—that word only describes what happened to me. Nor am I a survivor because that implies I am over it. I am a Phoenix—a work in progress. This is my story....

harrowing
Because of the content, this wasn't an easy listen. The book is excellently read. I highly recommend this book. It is an eye-opener and puts things in sharp focus. there is so much to take away from reading this book.

Sad, encouraging, important
It's very sad book and I was close to tears, when I listened about small, helpless children abused by the ruthless predators. And it was encouraging to listen how Karen not just survived but also resurrected. Above all, it is very important book, even if it is not easy to listen to it.

Tragic and heartbreaking
It breaks my heart to know that the system does not protect vulnerable children. A sad story, with justice at the end.

Heart breaking and empowering
I was absolutely drawn in to this book and although it made me very sad, angry and sometimes empowered I felt every word and my heart ached it will stay in my thoughts forever

Unbelievable story
Don’t know what to say about this true story, I feel shocked, saddened that this actually happened to a young child and many more I cannot get my head around this sick act from monsters, I’m so sorry anyone should have to suffer like this in the UK, what a troubled world we live in. Thank you for sharing your story of hell and hope the rest of your life is filled with love & happiness 💕

Compelling but disturbing
Iv never heard or read anything like this, the sheer stupidity and ignorance of the systems in our country that are designed to protect us is just horrifying. I absolutely couldn’t bear it when Shy talks about her mother as nobody that treats a child like she did ever deserves that title, everyone should read/ listen to this book to have an awareness of this topic out of respect for the brave individuals that have suffered at the hands of sick abusers to help ensure we can try to spot or prevent it happening to those around us. Well done Shy for surviving and trying to help others you are one brave human being 💗
