About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

2022's most original and darkly funny murder mystery from award-winning comedian Benjamin Stevenson.

I was dreading the Cunningham family reunion even before the first murder. Before the storm stranded us at the mountain resort.

The thing is, us Cunninghams don't really get along.

We've only got one thing in common: we've all killed someone.

My brother, my step-sister, my wife, my father, my mother, my sister-in-law, my uncle, my step-father, my aunt. Even me.

When they find the first body in the snow, it's clear that only a Cunningham could have committed the crime—and it's up to me to prove it.

There are plenty of killers in my family. But only one murderer....

Critic reviews

I absolutely loved it. Utterly original, hugely entertaining, and a must-read for every fan of the mystery genre. What an exceptionally fresh, smart, funny book - I've never read anything like this before. (Jane Harper)
As fresh and zingy as a salted lime. It's Knives Out meets Richard Osman. Or Dexter by way of Agatha Christie. Or Schitt's Creek with a body count. It's also the most luxuriantly enjoyable novel I've read in years. And years. I began toting my copy around town so that strangers would ask me about it - who could resist that title? I only wish there were more members of the Cunningham clan, so that this raucous, matchlessly entertaining mystery could go on longer. Benjamin Stevenson, I've got a lot to learn from you (A.J. Finn)
The best thing I've read in ages. I absolutely loved it. Whip-smart, twisted, funny, and constructed with the pinpoint precision of a bloodthirsty watchmaker. (Stuart MacBride)

A good, modern-world detective novel can be hard to find. This is one of them. Can get a bit smug in places but it's well-earned smugness.

Fun ride

So I took a while to get into this and I had to go back a few times to understand who was who and what plot line affected what character etc. That being said after about an hour in it really picked up! Quite dark at some points, lots of twists too.

Slow but strong burner

I loved this audiobook. Really enjoyed how the narrator was taking directly to the reader/listener. Cleverly formulaic without giving anything away. Was sad when it ended.

A really enjoyable tale

The only time I wanted to put this down was when I stopped to review all of the cleverly laid out threads and try to sleuth it myself - it gave just enough to satisfy my detective-work ego whilst still having lots of shocks in store that felt earned and earnest.

Gripping!

It all started out so promisingly… but I just didn’t enjoy it! The narration wasn’t brilliant (was this the only Australian narrator they could find?) but I’m not convinced that was the main problem. It felt like this book had all the components of a great detective type novel with a lighthearted touch and should have been right up my street, but somehow it just didn’t come together. Parts were too gruesome for the general tone of the book, I never cared about any of the characters, the story was both too fantastical and yet also too boring! In glad other people liked it but for me it was less than the sum of its parts.

I wish I had liked it
