About this listen
Eyes down to find a killer who’s playing to win…
An irresistible slice of murder and mystery – there’s a killer on the loose in the Lake District, and the members of the Penrith Bingo Club have decided they’re the ones to catch the culprit…
Jason Brazel is an out of work journalist who lives in Penrith with his family and mother-in-law, Amita. She knows everyone and everything that’s going on in this corner of the Lakes.
So when it’s discovered that Madeline Frobisher, one of Amita’s fellow regulars at the bingo club has died, found by the postman outside her crumbling country home close to Ullswater Lake, she senses immediately this is no accident. The trouble is, no one else seems to take her suspicions seriously.
That is, until she enlists the help of her friends at the Penrith Bingo Club. Dismissed by many as eccentric, over the hill or out of touch, it turns out that it’s unlucky for some that these amateur sleuths are on the case…

Enjoyable cosy crime
I enjoyed this story, a gentle tale! If murder can be gentle 😊 Perfect listen for car journey or ironing session!

Good overall
A good story, quite funny at times. It sometimes feels a little slow to move on at some points. Well narrated.

A little too long but had a promising start
This had all the ingredients of a good cosy murder mystery: interesting characters, a promising story and good narration. I would say the story is just a little bit too long winded. It rambles a bit, especially towards the end. This is a shame because it just misses the mark. However, for a throwaway and light read, it is fine. I don't think I would be tempted by any further books in the series, however "never say never", as they say.

Slow burner murder mystery
I really enjoyed this. It took a while to get going but it was worth persevering. I was thinking of all sorts of ideas and what must have happened but realised nearly right at the end. Differently written from “normal” murder mysteries and beautifully narrated.

Brilliant
Great characters, story, narrator and atmosphere. Twists and turns throughout the book, plus individual character backstory interwoven in the main plot.

great characters, a really original cosy crime
The narrator for this book is great. she really brought the characters to life. The characters and setting are really original, and the plot line was good. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Potential
Great idea - the mother in law/son in law duo but the male lead is so weak and pathetic it’s just irritating. The outrageously far fetched assumptions they come to (not involving the crimes) just in everyday life are draining and some of the ideas are ridiculous - for example the reason the farmer might have a motive it doesn’t even make sense - oh and please - a field (singular) is not an ‘estate’. It is half decent cosy mystery for free but I won’t buy the next one.
