The power of belief in spiritual cultures.

Really interesting story, explains culture differences, impact of poverty and how quickly greed can develop.

The shocking nature of human trafficking and religious manipulation.

Clear and well-paced narrative, use of original documentation and satisfactory closure.
Use of religious manipulation and the power of Juju was something rarely considered in 21st century slavery.

A difficult listen

Wow what a horrible trade, with horrible people at the centre of it. Easy to blame the victims and tar them all as people making their own choice and interested in money in a country they have no right to live in, but if you live in abject poverty with no prospects and are offered a potentially lucrative opportunity- maybe we would all think about it.

The shadow of curses still follow so many people. Superstition is the norm in some places. It must be terrifying to live with, if you believe it.

The music at the end of each episode was apt I guess but very creepy

Redefines the podcast format!

This is a must listen - a vital piece of journalism delivered as a beautiful work of art! The experience is the most immersive podcast I've listened to - from the vivid writing of the narration, to the subtle foley, to the voice actors and of course, the music, which deserves an album itself! The actual telling of the story is also unique, its not a straight true crime formula: it weaves in mythology and cultural mores in an entertaining and educating way while navigating the intense subject matter deftly.

Can't recommend this enough!

Gripping

It’s a must listen, I felt I knew such practice still existed but I didn’t understand how much control it had over people’s life in the modern day.
