About this listen
On a cold December evening in 2016 a terrified young woman turns up at a brothel in Germany with a French passport but doesn’t speak a word of French. The owner is suspicious and alerts the German authorities, igniting a groundbreaking and history-making global investigation where ancient rituals collide with the modern world of crime fighting.
From RAW, the producers of hits such as The Tinder Swindler, Three Identical Strangers and Don't F**k With Cats, as well as Audible Original, The Second Victim, comes a fast-paced, gripping true crime podcast, CURSED, presented by British-Nigerian journalist Femi Oke (CNN/Aljazeera), with an original score and sound design by South African music producer and DJ, Esa Williams.
Some of the content may be disturbing to some listeners - involving accounts of physical and sexual violence, suicidal thoughts and intense human suffering. So please take care when listening.

The shocking nature of human trafficking and religious manipulation.
Clear and well-paced narrative, use of original documentation and satisfactory closure.
Use of religious manipulation and the power of Juju was something rarely considered in 21st century slavery.

A difficult listen
Wow what a horrible trade, with horrible people at the centre of it. Easy to blame the victims and tar them all as people making their own choice and interested in money in a country they have no right to live in, but if you live in abject poverty with no prospects and are offered a potentially lucrative opportunity- maybe we would all think about it.
The shadow of curses still follow so many people. Superstition is the norm in some places. It must be terrifying to live with, if you believe it.
The music at the end of each episode was apt I guess but very creepy

Great story telling
This book took me on the hidden journey of the illegal migrant entering Europe. With great depth and insight, my eyes are wide open to the misery behind the headlines.

a really moving account of a complex situation
The description of other cultures is really helpful to understand how people get drawn in to people trafficking and illegal immigration.

Frightening true story.
Excellent work by the German and British police in uncovering a small part of the huge problem that illegal migration is bringing to our shores. What I found incomprehensible is how Lyamu became a senior nurse and what if any qualifications, did she have. In addition did the NHS check this out?
