About this listen

Barbara was 12 when she was admitted to the psychiatric hospital Aston Hall in 1971. From a troubled home, she'd hoped she would find sanctuary there. But during her stay, Barbara was systematically drugged and abused by its head physician, Dr Kenneth Milner.

Somehow, eventually, she started to campaign for answers. This is a shocking account of how vulnerable children were preyed upon by the doctor entrusted with their care.

I was literally shouting at the radio whilst listening in the car. Frustrated at how adults, and her own family, could treat a little girl like this. As a father myself I found it heartbreaking to listen to at times but I'm glad I stayed with it.
Truly worth listening to.

This book had me shouting at the speakers

What a devastating emotional book that ripped and tore at me as I read it.
What people do to people, especially children, makes me want to join another species.

O'Hare was unbelievably brave to survive the abuse she faced as a child in a psychiatric hospital; one she was sent to seemingly without any reason.
And then as a adult she is amazingly brave to tell her story and fight for justice so much later.

A terrifying story which is hard to stop reading.

devastating and empowering

Just wow!!! How she lived through it all. I'm speechless that this happened to her from such a young age. Fntastic narrator in the book, Love the way she begins chapati individuals in the book. Horrific and shocking what Barbara went through, also how she survived it all. Well done in helping others too. I wish the author all the best now in the future, I hope she can can find some peace and forgiveness eventually 🙏 xxxx
