This story was HOT!!

Luca and Branson were... wow just wow, I don't even have the words to describe it.

The intensity of their feelings and the amount of push and pull between the two was spectacular. I loved the whole thing.

I loved the way these two fit together like they were meant to be and I loved the way things played out in this story. This is definitely one I will be revisiting regularly!

Eric Corbyn and Michael Gallagher nailed it!! They completely brought this book full circle! It was such a great experience!

This is a great taboo book. The characters are very well written and their love is genuine. I loved everything about this book. A fantastic performance.

I love everything about this book,at first wasn't too sure because of stepbrother thing but, once I heard Michael Gallagher voice ,I just couldn't stop listening,his voice is beautiful. I m glad a gave it a chance though. I still don't know, how I feel about the fact that, they were stepbrother. The characters complemented each other and transmitted their emotions so well.I also loved the supporting characters , Sarah specially ,the sex part were very detailed,

Barred Desires is the first book in The Deepest Desires series. This is a steamy standalone MM romance between two stepbrothers. While quite toasty at times, this book also deals with a lot of emotional issues. I like how both Luca and Branson compliment each other's personalities. While I'm not generally a stepbrother fan, I've never actually read a MM stepbrothers. It was different, hot and still not my go-to trope. But if you like stepbrother and MM then this is a great read. I listened to it in a day.

Not my Go-To Trope, But Still Fun

I’ve already read the book, but couldn’t pass on the opportunity to revisit the story.
Forbidden stepbrother romance may not be an immediate ‘go to’ for me, but ‘Barred Desires’ is amongst the few I find myself being drawn to.

Branson and Luca have been in each others lives from a very young age. Their attraction to one another wasn’t.
The element of surprise was, therefore, very well thought of and written.

Another great thing about Ashley James is how she writes ‘boys’. They’re messy, awkward, impulsive and (often) brash but… guess what? Early twenty something boys act just like that. Their angst is never too far apart from a struggle for comprehension and, especially, patience. They might read as unpolished, but they’re certainly genuine.

Also, if you’re not familiar with the series, the next two titles are definitely worth reading, with ‘Forsaken Desires’ being my favourite (I really loved hating ‘Finny’!). Quite a bit darker and heavier, though.

🎧 Both narrators did an AMAZING job portraying these newly minted adults.
I wasn’t familiar with either, but will definitely keep an eye out for their work from now on.

The narrators had good voices. So was easy to listen to that way.

I liked the guys and how their relationship developed.

I struggled with him having issues and loved that he shared but I totally wish he told his dad and it shown how he overcome his issues.

I loved how close they where and really liked them developing.

This was all sorts of hot & delicious. I loved the angst and the chemistry between Luca & Branson.
These two together was beautiful, I loved how they were there for each other during some emotional moments & it just made them stronger together.

I enjoyed this book immensely, the story not only captivated my attention right from the start, but it tugged on my tugged on my heartstrings the entire time, too. Ashley James is a “new to me” author, and I enjoyed her writing style. The storylines she created are interesting and original and the characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they were easy to care about too. I adored the two lead characters, Luca Gray Hart and Branson Joseph Adler, the secondary characters were great too, except for Courtney, Branson’s nickname for her was very fitting. Branson and Luca become stepbrothers when Luca’s father and Branson’s mother married. Courtney and Luca dated for a couple of years, but he is not happy with her or their relationship, plus he is having inappropriate thoughts about his stepbrother, Branson, who is gay, despite being straight. Luca is starting college and when his housing plan falls through, his father suggests he take the extra room at Branson’s house, which is what he does. Luca fits right in with the guys at the house and he and Branson become even closer and their feelings for each other strengthen. Complicating things are Courtney and that they are stepbrothers, also Luca’s past nightmares are coming back to haunt him, and it is Branson who comforts him. Both of them have past demons, but Branson deals with his better, and he shares his with Luca who opens up about his own, both were gut-wrenching to hear. Love is love, so I do not see this as a forbidden romance, and I loved how their relationship played out, the story is wonderfully plotted story and has plenty of drama, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance.  Ashley James, thank you for this great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for terrific the narration, Michael Gallagher and Eric Corbyn did a great job bringing these bringing these characters and story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, giving each a voice that suited their character and was believable in every role they played. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen.

Absolutely loved this MM stepbrother romance both narrators are amazing . Luca and Bran were perfect I’m so glad they realised they needed each other , Luca deserved so much better than Courtney.
