About this listen

Romantic & sexy dreams link a false princess to a dangerous, disgraced fae prince in this fun, steamy enemies-to-lovers romantasy.

In her dreams, he envelops her in love. In real life, he imprisons her in ice.

Assassin, liar, impersonator—dreamer.

As a royal decoy, trained to replace the Krastel princess even in a political marriage, Astra’s life is not her own. With a duty like that, how can she dream about love?

And yet she knows she has a kindred soul. She can feel his presence every night, holding her in his arms, surrounding her with his warmth.

But ice-cold reality crashes in when Astra’s carriage is attacked by the Crystal Court’s disgraced prince. Banished for heinous crimes and armed with powerful stolen relics, he’s a wielder of mighty magic and can even infiltrate minds.

It turns out that he is the man in her dreams.

And this is about to get very, very awkward… ??

Excellent book and well narrated. This fantasy world pulls you in with all it's beauty and danger, and puts doubts into your head and has you wanting to shout 'don't believe him' but you carry on reading/listening. The next in the series is a must.

In A Cursed Son, Astra is a royal decoy trained to impersonate the Krastel princess. She finds herself entangled in a steamy enemies-to-lovers romance with a disgraced and banished fae prince. Despite their antagonistic real-life encounters, Astra secretly shares romantic dreams with this very prince. This romantic fantasy with fae magic, arranged marriage, and witty banter is perfect for fans of dream connections and elemental magic.

This book instantly hooked me. To start with it was Astra's personality - I really enjoyed how the author showcases Astra's thought processes and logic, and how she assesses the actions and thoughts of Marlak. I felt like I really understood who she is and how she thinks. So it was Astra and her steamy dreams that hooked me initially but then the mystery of Marlak's history and the developing plot completely got its claws into me, and I finished this book in one day, desperate to see where it went!

I loved the audiobook! The narrator was really good throughout the whole book at bringing Astra and the other characters to life, but where she really outdid herself was during those steamy dream sequences and the hilarious dream aftermath scenes. Because Astra doesn't admit to Marlak that she's experiencing the dreams too, it results in genuinely funny scenes once they wake up that had me laughing out loud today while listening to the audiobook.

I think the audiobook format was fantastic for this book, and obviously the narrator performed it way better than my own voice in my head would have done! She really brought Astra in particular to life, and had me laughing a lot! I can't wait for the second book - it was such a strong ending that sets up lots of drama and secrets to be revealed as the story continues. I'll definitely be picking up the audiobook for book two as well!

The audiobook format is PERFECT for this book! Genuinely laugh out loud funny, sexy and exciting.

I was lucky enough to get the chance to review an audiobook ARC of this lovely first book of a new series by Leitao, who almost instantly enchanted me.

When starting A Cursed Son, the first thing that captivated me is the fluid narrative. The first person narrative by FMC Astra flows from one thought to the next with barely any pause, which takes some getting used to, but once you are, it's a comfortable and smooth experience.

The narration by Caitlin Kelly is smooth, bright and warm. She conveys emotions beautifully without over-amplifying and gives each character a distinct voice and personality from the get-go. Kelly immerses you into the ongoing internal monologue in Astra's head almost effortlessly, making the audiobook even harder to put down.

Astra is 19, an utterly believable 19. She is headstrong, brave, romantic, a little selfish and foolish, a lot rebellious, full of wanderlust while clinging on to the beliefs she was raised with.
In romance books I believe we often encounter <20 year olds who are overly mature. No such thing with Leitao's writing: Astra is the perfect mix between strong adult woman and insecure romantic barely out of her teens raised in a sheltered setting. I found her enchantingly, utterly *real*, despite her mysterious heritage....

At times progression in the narrative feels frustratingly slow - further on I realised that this gave the characters time to actually develope. It made the love story far more realistic than something quickly developed to be ready for other plot in act 3. It's refreshing and encouraging to see an author grant that time to their characters. I feel strongly grateful for the experience, actually.
And yes, it did make me want to scream at the characters and their misunderstandings sometimes. But it makes so much sense for them, and as readers we get all the information needed to understand their actions exactly on time.

With this first book, Leitao sets up a series with a rich world, fantastical magic system, powerful characters and so much potential. Kelly's narration of the audiobook offers a great listening experience that feels deeply true to the book. Both make me incredibly exited for what's to come in this series, and I can't wait for part 2!

Binge-worthy, fantastical and wonderfully believable

Wow wow wow. A lot of world building in this first of a series book but it never felt tedious. Very slow burn romance. I do love it when he falls first. ;) The dream connection was very interesting and unique. Not sure how it looks in print, if it's in a different font or pagination, but it was a bit confusing in audio until I figured out the tells.

I'm eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

Narration was excellent. The narrator captured the essence and tone of a young woman perfectly.

NOTE: book ends on a cliffhanger

Fascinating Fae series starter

I LOVED this book. it has everything that I feel like new romantasy books are missing lately. A smart and capable fmc, and chefs kiss mmc, interesting world building, and the spice was done so well (especially for a first book). My only complaint is the main characters went round in circles every time they finally communicated their true thoughts and feelings to one another for most of the book which was frustrating to listen to, but other than that amazing!

Already Can't Wait For Book 2
