In una narrazione intima e naturalmente poetica, Gianna Manzini ripercorre la propria infanzia, esplorando il complesso rapporto con il padre, Giuseppe Manzini, fervente anarchico scomparso nel 1925 dopo un'aggressione fascista. Un padre che alla figlia trasmette la sua più profonda convinzione: "Non basta averlo un ideale; bisogna esserne degni: capaci cioè di sacrificargli qualsiasi cosa, a cominciare da se stessi". Un padre che nella figlia si riconosce: "Tu" disse infine "sei come me." Pensava: "Non ti tireresti indietro, tu".
