  • 50: Faith Journeys: Trusting God with Those We Love
    Dec 16 2024

    Send us a text

Fifty episodes—what a milestone! I want to take a moment to thank each of you for being here, for listening, and for creating this incredible community.

To mark this special occasion, I’m opening up and sharing a deeply personal journey—my faith journey. This is a story of questioning, struggle, healing, and rediscovery, and I hope that it brings you peace and clarity, especially if you or someone you love is navigating a similar path.

In this episode, I dive into:

    • My breaking point: grappling with feelings of unworthiness, guilt, and a high-demand religion.
    • The impact of my children stepping away from the church and how that challenged my belief system.
    • Wrestling with difficult topics like church history, polygamy, and patriarchy—and why I decided to stop carrying the weight of those struggles.
    • How a loving, healing Christ changed everything for me.
    • Practical steps I took to find peace in my faith journey: setting boundaries, giving myself grace, and reconstructing my testimony.

If you’re struggling to support a loved one who’s questioning or stepping away from the faith, I share:

    • How to create safety by listening with curiosity and without judgment.
    • Why you don’t need to have all the answers.
    • The importance of prayer—not to change them, but to trust God with their journey.

Faith journeys are not crises; they’re evolutions. If you or someone you love is questioning their faith, this episode will remind you that growth can be messy and beautiful all at once—and that it’s okay to not have it all figured out.

Make sure to listen until the end, where I share tips for being supportive, staying anchored in your own faith, and trusting God with the ones you love most.

    Resources mentioned:

Thank you for being here, and here’s to continuing this journey together.

    Warmly,
    Michelle

  • 47: Building Confidence versus Arrogance
    Nov 25 2024

    Send us a text

In this episode, I share actionable ways to build confidence for yourself and help your kids do the same. We'll explore how to develop confidence in areas like praying—especially praying out loud in front of others—and how small steps can lead to big changes.

I also introduce a powerful tool called the Dare of the Day. This practice involves writing down small, manageable challenges that gently push you out of your comfort zone. By tackling these dares, you can signal to your nervous system that it's safe to grow and try new things, laying a foundation of grounded confidence.

Building confidence is a lifelong journey, but with these strategies, you and your kids can take meaningful steps toward becoming more assured and resilient. Tune in and start your confidence-building journey today!

  • 46: Your Missionaries Offering is Sufficient with Travis Stephensen
    Nov 18 2024

    Send us a text

In this episode, my brother, Travis Stephensen, and I discuss the challenges of letting go of judgment—both toward ourselves and our missionaries. We discuss the negative narratives we often tell ourselves, like “I’m not enough” or “Did I do enough to prepare my child for their mission?” and how these feelings can creep into how we view our kids' progress.

Travis shares insights about the unrealistic standards we set and how they can create a gap between where we are and where we think we should be. We discuss the importance of grace, reframing our meager offerings, and the incredible ways God multiplies what we bring—even if it feels small or imperfect.

We also explore how to support missionaries when they feel they’re not measuring up, offering them validation, permission to feel, and a safe space to share their struggles. Finally, we reflect on how gratitude and grounding can shift our perspective, helping both parents and missionaries find peace in the journey.

Wherever you’re at in your missionary mom experience, remember: your feelings are valid, your efforts matter, and we’re here for all of it—the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Let’s embrace the messy middle together!

    Mentioned in this episode:

    • The power of listening without trying to fix
    • God’s “impossible math” with our offerings
    • How to normalize emotions for yourself and your missionary

Thank you for being here. Let’s keep putting goodness into the world. 💛

  • 45: Your Feelings Are Valid
    Nov 11 2024

    Send us a text

In this episode, I discuss how to process your emotions. You hear people say to feel your feelings all the time, but there isn't much information on how exactly that happens. I introduce the steps to help you feel your feelings, and it starts with validating your experience and acknowledging that what you are feeling is real and valid. The second step is normalizing your feelings. Normalize that, of course, you feel this way, which is separate from justifying. Last step is permission to feel. How many times were did you suck it up? How many times do our missionaries have to suck it up?

  • 44: Home MTC and Your Nervous System
    Nov 6 2024

I share my recent experience of home MTC and give some tools for activating your nervous system. It's a process of learning and understanding your emotional landscape without judgment. Team Hyper can feel very energized, and burning off energy may work for you; it didn't for me in this case. But softening and finding which muscles were clinched worked well.
