#11: This week, Liz and Bryce The Third are joined by David Patton, PhD, Associate Professor of Criminology at the University of Derby's Social, Cultural and Legal Research Centre. His work concentrates on amplifying the often-marginalized voices of folks in recovery, particularly in academic settings. At New Central Media, his mission is to challenge traditional knowledge structures, advocating that lived experience is as valid as, or more than, academic knowledge, particularly in substance use disorder and recovery.

Tune into the episode to hear more from Dr Patton, including:

    • Why he founded New Central Media and why he emphasizes that stories are knowledge.
    • How societal-imposed narratives about his background and upbringing impacted his identity and aspirations, and how he shed these notions.
    • The fateful daydream he had at age 13 during summer holiday that set him on a new path.
