About this listen
Things are eerily quiet at Gemma's quaint English tearoom, and she can't understand why - until she learns about the trendy new "tea bar" that's opened on the other side of the village. To her horror, she soon finds her customers being stolen and her business the target of sabotage. Meanwhile, her mother's newfound obsession with all things Asian means a whole new world of fluffy footwear and hazardous dinner encounters. But Gemma has bigger problems than trying to eat with chopsticks when the ruthless rival tea bar owner is savagely murdered and she is considered the key suspect!
Now she's in a real pickle, desperate to clear her name. And with her detective boyfriend accused of nepotism and under suspicion, Gemma is forced to tackle the case on her own. Luckily, she can still count on the help of the nosy Old Biddies, while the naughty antics of her tabby cat, Muesli, uncover some unexpected clues too!
As Gemma delves into a mystery where "East meets West", familiar motives arise, despite the difference between cultures. But with a full menu of suspects - from the aggrieved dentist with the strained smile, to the belligerent chef who lost everything, and not to mention a pair of estranged sisters hurt by the ultimate betrayal - she discovers that solving this case is no piece of cake....
Bonus: traditional tea egg recipe included at the end of the story!

Story line was interesting and I liked the attempt to keep the book fresh. I am always surprised that its never crossed the minds of any of the characters to be angry with Gemma's involvement, the girl was announced in the paper as killing or having bad blood with Ms Wongs daughter, yet Gemma still shows at the house, lends the woman her cat (as a cat parent I would never!) and goes into the victims room, never ounce thinking her grieving mum might be vexed at the her. Also seen in other books whereby the killer is caught and linked to other victims who Gemma still swans about from never suspecting they may harbour some ill will. It doesn't affect the reading just makes me chuckle.

"Right, if you lot break into this house I will call the police and watch them arrest you and hall you away, don't think I won't!" "Gemma you wouldn't" "Oh yes I would, and I will watch it all happen with a big smile on my face!" "Gemma, that's just mean..." "Well listen to me and you won't land up being arrested and put in handcuffs!" "I've never been put in handcuffs before?" "I have, it was fun, we were role playing!" "Glenda, there is such a thing as over sharing!"
This is by far my favourite book in the series!

Great murder mystery series

Overall, it was disappointing; I had been looking forward to listening to this. Perhaps the author has exhausted credible story lines for this series.
Weak plot of tea

Gemma is worried when she only has one customer in her tea shop. When she discovers a tea bar has just opened up on the other side of the village and with all the opening promotions running its got the villagers interest, including her loyal customers. Gemma and her best friend decided to check out the competition and quickly learn not everything is as cracked up as it seems, the food has a lot to be desired, its to trendy for a small village and the owner Azalea isn't the friendliest. When Gemma's tea room start to get bad reviews on the internet she has a good idea of who is behind it but can she prove it? Then at a community meeting her mother asked her to help at Gemma discovers the get together is being held at her rivals tea bar. Then Gemma finds Azalea body in the kitchen and becomes the number one suspect in her murder. With her boyfriend on the scene of the murder and his relationship with the top suspect he is taken off the case. With Muesli comforting the grieving family it gives Gemma plenty of opportunity to get to know the murder victim through her remaining family members but could one of them really have killed the ruthless business owner? The old biddies are also up to the challenge of clearing Gemma's name even if it's just distracting a young police office, giving Gemma the room to investigate. Can she find the motive and reason why Azalea died and with the competition out of the way is the tea shop saved?
I like the very talented narrator, who puts in an entertaining performance.
