This follows Reeman's usual story structure but is refreshingly different as it focuses on a less well known part of the SWW, namely escort carrier operations and the Royal Navy in the Indian Ocean. Well read with strong characters.

a good yarn

One of the better douglas reeman novels. Great story line and pace. Great to be able to read a novel about the Royal Navy fleet air arm with seafire’s (navy spitfires) included as well as swordfish

Great British naval aviation novel

This book has a great story line, filled with intrigue, suspense and action.
It also has that touch of romance, which brings the human side of some of the characters out and the inhumane side of others.

It is very well read by David and Douglas, who has written many quality books has not dissapointed with this one.

Fantastic Listen.

The story was one of the more engaging ones of this series. The narrator, able to smoothly interchange between characters, was absolutely top class.

I wasn't sure about this story at first. I'm a big Reeman fan as a rule and usually I am hooked from the start but this book was different. It took a little while for me to get into it but I'm glad I persevered. All the usual elements are there, the grizzled captain, the junior officer showing pluck and bravery, the arrogant stuffed shirt of an admiral and of course, eventually, the love interest. This latter is less excruciating than the standard Reeman love interests and for that the reader/listener is grateful and it does add to the story. The mix of action, starting in Europe, to the Russian Arctic convoys before switching over to the Pacific also adds to the telling of the story, as does the sparkling narration by David Rintoul - I can't think of a better person to read these tales.

My late father used to read a lot of Douglas Reeman, now I understand why after listening to a number of his books on audible, none have disapointed me. So much humanity in his stories joy, sadness, anger, failure...love & freindship. How the ships were loved and the cameradery of the crew. The description of the action sequences stunning. Another great book.
