About this listen

Bloomsbury presents Who Are Ya? by Kevin Day, read by Kevin Day and Gary Lineker.

"Excellent" –The Times

"Kevin's immense knowledge shines on every page." – Gary Lineker

"A football book by a fan for the fans. A treasure trove." – Alan Davies

"An entertaining romp through the back alleys and glamour parks of English football." – FourFourTwo

Partly autobiographical, partly polemical, but mostly funny, Who Are Ya? is a snapshot of modern football, exploring the history of all 92 English Football League clubs .

During his time as a broadcaster, comedian and former Match of the Day presenter Kevin Day has spoken to thousands of football players, managers and most importantly fans from across the generations. He spent thousands of hours crossing the country on trains, planes, automobiles, coaches – and once a donkey called Lightning – watching football at all levels.

This book is the result of that: a tale of being chased down a railway line at Cardiff, a story of meeting George Best, an account of a lady getting her first Hull City tattoo at the age of 80!

Crisply funny and with a host of celebrity football fan contributors – including Stephen Fry, Jo Brand, Alfie Boe, Eddie Izzard, Gabby Logan, and Romesh Ranganathan – Who Are Ya? celebrates the joys and miseries of being a football supporter.

Up and Down

I enjoyed this overall, some great stories but also some a bit less interesting. I occasionally struggled with the repetitive format, but you just pause have a break and go back to it.

I enjoyed he wasn't shy of expressing his bias opinions we all have as football fans

Entertaining & Useful Guide To All 92 clubs

Really enjoyed this. A great guide to the history of English football clubs funny and informative. Manages to be fair minded without ever compromising on the fact that he's a real foitball fan (even if that is Palace). Only criticism is that even though he does state Milton Keynes shouldnt exist as a club, he does go a little soft on them

Essence of Being a Football fan

Kevin is one of my favourite podcasters so him narrating his book was a bit of a no brainer. The book more than exceeded my expectations and glad that I'm not the only person to think about other teams as he does. The most interesting stories are about teams outside the Premier League and the potted history was fascinated. Was highlight of Bank Holiday weekend to listen to the book over a couple of days. Kevin's experience from The Price of Football podcast ran through the plights of the lower league teams and really informed the story - although that experience is also my only gripe - you can pick on Liverpool for spending £500 million + to win league - but you can't ignore the net spend which shows excellent business!

Otherwise the book makes being a Palace fan a good way of life!

Thorough and Laugh Out Loud Funny at Times

Captures what supporting a football team means and ranks alongside Nick Hornby’s “Fever Pitch”.

Being the same age, same politics and, crucially, supporting the same team as the author I agreed with almost everything although I’m more sympathetic towards modern stadiums. Aside from the laughs he’s reminded me of games I was at, games on TV, places I’ve been to and several people I’d almost forgotten.

You’ll love it if you’re a football fan of any club (but especially Crystal Palace), and if you’re not, why it matters so much.
