About this listen

Marie Walker has vanished from the face of the earth....

Her besotted boyfriend, newspaper photographer Richard Thompson, vows to find her, convinced that Marie's unusual beliefs hold the key.

But a shocking discovery makes him question if he ever really knew his girlfriend. And when people around him start to die, Richard is plunged into terrible danger.

Drawn into the world of a sinister cult and the darkest corners of the Internet, Richard finds himself increasingly out of his depth as he discovers just how far people will go to protect what they believe in....

This book is certainly worth reading, particularly if you haven’t read Mark Edwards before. I enjoyed this book and chose these ratings because I want to encourage other people to read this book.I enjoyed the overall story, particularly the aspect of warning against cults.

Another enjoyable book by Mark Edwards

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I couldn't wait to read another book from this author as I find he is usually very in touch with reality. However I couldn't get into this one. There wasn't a single character I could empathise with or relate to and the story was too far fetched and contrived.

Would you be willing to try another book from Mark Edwards? Why or why not?

Yes because I have really enjoyed all his others.

What didn’t you like about Ralph Lister’s performance?

His attempt at character's voices, particularly female was comical and distracting.

Did What You Wish For inspire you to do anything?

No.

Any additional comments?

Mark - do your heroines always have to have red hair?

A bit disappointing

Reader read quite well except for the female characters which were whiny. The story was tedious at times, and challenged credulity. Not at all up to Mark Edwards usual standard.

Somewhat stretched plot

Would you try another book written by Mark Edwards or narrated by Ralph Lister?

I have really enjoyed several books by Mark Edwards. It would not put me off buying others.

What could Mark Edwards have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I get that this book is not actually about Alien abduction (or I assume it isn't), but I am half way through and the focus remains upon trying to get information and that information being about the beliefs and behaviours of the 'believers'. I find I can't care any longer and will return it.

Could not get on with this!

I love Mark Edward’s books but I think I’d rather read them than listen. The narrator’s voice was so irritating when speaking as a female, I struggled to get through it. The storyline wasn’t the best, but not sure if that was down to preserving and getting to the end!

Narrator’s voice!!

I'm really don't enjoy books about aliens and thought this is a bit of a letdown for Mark Edwards. really didn't have any twists at all. check out his other books so as they are not like this

not his normal style

Normally I love his books but this one was a disappointment, from start to end

Lazy attempt of an ending

I have recently discovered Mark Edwards and have loved the tense anxious feeling I get with previous novels like Magpies follow me home etc but this novel is off on a tangent and for me weaker for it.

bit of a slow burner to be honest

this is a very different type of book, nowhere near as good as his usual subject matter
also the ending just went on and on and on
until it got a bit "preachy" as well as monotonous

not as good as his other books

Kept me interested most of the time. I did feel that the last few hours dragged a little. I liked the narrating and the voices made me laugh ! The story line was pretty unusual too, but made me want to keep listening. I look forward to listening to his other books.

I enjoyed this.
