Laura van Dernoot Lipsky
About this listen
A longtime trauma worker, Laura van Dernoot Lipsky offers a deep and empathetic survey of the often-unrecognized toll on those working to make the world a better place. We may feel tired, cynical, numb, or like we can never do enough. These, and other symptoms, affect us individually and collectively, sapping the energy and effectiveness we so desperately need if we are to benefit humankind, other animals, and the planet itself. Through Trauma Stewardship, we are called to meet these challenges in an intentional way - not by becoming overwhelmed but by developing a quality of mindful presence. Joining the wisdom of ancient cultural traditions with modern psychological research, Lipsky offers a variety of simple and profound practices that will allow us to remake ourselves - and ultimately the world.

A powerful read for all those regularly in contact with people going through challenging times in their lives.
You can’t pour from an empty jug but many in modern western cultures seem to have lost that wisdom. Laura gently reminds us to look after ourselves.

This book was painful to listen to and very badly thought out.
I found the author's pace of reading, tone of voice, accent and pitch very difficult to listen to.
Ordinarily I prefer the author to read their own audiobooks but this author was not skilled in this area.
I found her tone almost frenetic which actually caused me anxiety at times.
And explaining what each cartoon at the beginning of each chapter looked like was ridiculous, pointless and irksome.
The content itself was rambling.
Yes there were some good points in this book but they were buried in layer upon layer of case studies... I felt exhausted listening to this audiobook, which is why I abandoned it halfway through.
This book should come with a health warning.
