It is bewildering how Lee Winfield has created such dull and lfeless narration of such luminous prose, especially considering how 'The Varieties of Religious Experience' are the texts of public lectures and William James was himself renowned as a captivating speaker. Oh, for a time-machine to go back and record James giving these talks in 1902, and spare us from this dreadful reading of a classic book.
