About this listen

Six brand-new full-cast audio adventures for The Treacle People!

Welcome to Sabden, home of the mines that produce fully half of Britain’s treacle–the sticky stuff that goes into golden syrup, ginger beer and parkin cake. In this picturesque spot, where moobarks roam the fields and mischievous boggarts scamper around every corner, a proud industry flourishes–or rather, used to flourish. Because once again, the mines have run out of treacle, and the villagers find themselves in a decidedly sticky situation…

But hope is at hand! A mysterious message in a bottle leads Tapper, Lil and the rest of our friends on an epic quest to retrieve riches beyond their wildest dreams. With the help of their trusty Treacle Tracker, they’ll descend to the very depths of the earth, cross the Molasso Sea, tame the Great White Mallard, Moby Duck, and enter the fabled Mines of King Habbakuk. Will they find the treasure? Will they make it out alive? And will we find the budget for some decent locations now we’re doing this on audio? Find out the answers to all this and much, much less in The Treacle People: Still Sticky.

Comforting adventure, even for an adult!

This was so wonderful to listen to, so easy to imagine it all play out and I know if I had been a child I would have run whatever CD or cassette this could have been on then til it broke!

The humor is so charming and both the comedy and storytelling fit adults as much as children, to me. It was a very comforting listen. If that makes any sense.

Perfect casting, easy to distinguish characters.

I have not actually watched or grown up with the Treacle People because I am Swedish, but I really want to experience more of them and their comedy now! Also so that I may come back to relisten and really take in how wonderful it is that original voicecast did this!

Good to see my childhood brought back

When I first heard that this series was going to be brought back with the 3 surviving cast members of the original show back in 1996 I was beaming with excitement to listen to this audio drama and I absolutely loved it so much I highly recommend this to all fans of The Treacle People you’ll absolutely love it 5/5 for the story performances from the cast and overall 10/10 I really enjoyed it

Loved it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this! Despite not having seen the original TV show, I could easily follow along and understand all the jokes. The characters were great, especially the narrator - very funny! Highly recommend!

Still Sticky (after all these years!) ⭐

I remember watching and loving 'The Treacle People' as a young 'un, so I was pleasantly surprised when this was announced some time last year. Having listened to all six episodes, it didn't disappoint! The moment I heard the theme tune, waves of nostalgia hit me like a flood of Ginger Beer.

The sound editing was marvellous -- from Moobarks and Giant Ducks, to the excited gibberings of treacle-eating boggarts.

The remaining cast members did a great job reprising their iconic roles of yesteryear; and while there are notable absences, the condensed cast does help to keep things (or more precisely the plot) simple enough to enjoy.

As for the script itself: hilarious, nothing but. Just as the original series had been. The jokes are timeless and come thick and fast, with the fourth wall practically non-existent here 😁

Jonathan Trueman (one of the original writers) has clearly inherited a lot of his late father's sense of humour during their time working together, and I hope he's given future writing opportunities for other productions.

All in all, this was one revival I was very happy to see (and hear!). It was lovely revisiting Sabden again, and I thank everyone who was involved in its making. When the world needed cheering up, this ticks all the boxes.

Fantastic Return

It was heartening to hear the characters back again with the original voice talent and Jonathan Trueman maintaining the quality humour and writing he and his father brought to the original series. Sincerely hope the Treacle People will continue on in some capacity, thank you to the team behind it for bringing them back again!
