About this listen
An evocative and charming novel full of secrets and mystery, from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Lost Bookshop
In a quiet village in Ireland, a mysterious local myth is about to change everything…
One hundred years ago, Anna, a young farm girl, volunteers to help an intriguing American visitor translate fairy stories from Irish to English. But all is not as it seems and Anna soon finds herself at the heart of a mystery that threatens her very way of life.
In New York in the present day, Sarah Harper boards a plane bound for the West Coast of Ireland. But once there, she finds she has unearthed dark secrets – secrets that tread the line between the everyday and the otherworldly, the seen and the unseen.
With a taste for the magical in everyday life, Evie Woods's latest novel is full of ordinary characters with extraordinary tales to tell.

I absolutely love this book- easy to listen to & a story of finding yourself again & going back to your roots. Everything you need Ireland, history, fairies & a love story.Maybe I’m biased with my Irish ancestry based in west Ireland.

Two time periods intertwining.
I enjoyed this once it got going. Slow start but worth persevering. Narrator did an excellent job of all characters.

Good read
Lovely story about the folklore in Ireland. The story made me keep reading right from the start. Not the ending I thought but that’s real life!

mediocre
not alot to say about this book really, some parts were really detailed some not needed more. I wasn't keen on the narration if I'm being honest but understand how difficult it would be to flip from Irish to American accents. I feel the character could have been brought to life and been a bit deeper in their personalities which would in turn make more of a page turner. The concept of Anna's story was great but Sarah's was just a bit dull. saying that I did enjoy it. Evies other book the secret library was better.

A fairy tale
An easy listen which has an endearing quality. Though light and fluffy, there are more serious issues underlying about loss and grief. I enjoyed this and was interested in the dual storyline of Sarah and Anna. The narrator’s voice was delicious.
