About this listen

Read by the author, Tracy Whitwell.

The Accidental Medium
is the first audiobook in a hilarious series from Tracy Whitwell featuring Tanz, the accidental medium who, with the help of the dead, is about to become an unwilling crime-solver.

'Spooky and hilarious and brimming with oddball characters, I love this book!' – Mandasue Heller

Tanz is a wine-loving, straight-talking, once-successful TV actress from Gateshead, whose career has shrivelled like an antique walnut. She is still grieving for her friend Frank, who died in a car crash three years ago, and she has to find a normal job in London to fund her cocktail habit. When she starts work in a ‘new age’ shop, Tanz suddenly discovers that the voices she’s hearing in her head are real, not the first signs of madness, and that she can give people ‘messages’ from beyond the grave. Alarmed, she confronts her little mam and discovers she is from a long line of psychic mediums.

Despite an exciting new avenue of life opening up to Tanz, darkness isn’t far away and all too soon there’s murder in the air . . .

Critic reviews

I loved The Accidental Medium. A hilarious journey into a ghostly world of psychics and the like that’s guaranteed to put you in high spirits. I’m no clairvoyant but, trust me, this medium is about to go large! (Trevor Wood, author of The Man on the Street)
Compelling, wasp-tongued and very funny (Caroline Smailes, author of The Drowning of Arthur Braxton)

I was chuffed to hear the author reading her own work. I’m from the NE too and she made me laugh so much. Great book, now on to the Gin Palace! … x

loved this book , not my usual listen ( normally something far darker with a fair amount of serial killer content) but after meeting the author i felt compelled to buy this audiobook and i was far from disappointed, it's just great fun , the narration was just brilliant too I love a full cast production but this worked great with the author telling the tale , please can we have more ??

Humorous, warm, well-read and a quirky page-turner towards the end! (Or rather, an addictive listen on audible...)

I loved this book from the very first sentence and it only got better. The narration is amazing and I can honestly say it’s one of the best books I’ve ever list ened to, I’ve immediately bought the second in the series.
Tracy, you are wonderful as an author and narrator, I left the book feeling Tanz was my best friend and I knew her well.
What a great character Sheila was too, Milo, Frank, everyone, I can’t wait to start listening to the next one.

Absolutely superb performance and story

This was book of the day. I’ve had terrible luck choosing these in the past. This is the exception. Best listen I’ve downloaded in ages. Interesting, funny, clever. Took me a while to get used to the gordie accent of the narration, but in the end it complimented the story well. Highly recommend

Excellent listen

Unusual story line

I loved this book. It’s a refreshing spin on what you think you know about all things spooky. A spunky heroine finding herself in some very odd situations. I wanted to be Tanzes mate and I found myself wanting to drink cocktails with her as she went on her journey. I loved the way Tracy read with gusto and pure delight the whole way through. You can tell she is very proud of her book. I laughed aloud many times and it also brought me to tears in the sad bits. A wonderfully colourful story that I hope gets expanded upon. I’m waiting for the next book - will there be one? I want more! Excellent recommendation!
