A man wakes up in an hotel room without any memories. Outside, poverty, desperation and a plague with blank silver eyed people. A little girl asks his help... And the man, who calls himself Temp!e, gives what little help he can and they trzvel, together, through countries, all filled with victims, seemingly aimlessly but there is purpose, somewhere.

I do not wish to rehearse any more of the subject matter of this amazingly we!l written book as to do so would in part destroy the discovery of the terrible journey on which Temple and his young friend have embarked. Not for the squeamish, but still it reads more like poetry in it's ghastly beauty. As Temple tries to find out who and what he is, the reader also learns with him until, by the conclusion, all has been revea. The story text does suffer sometimes from repetition, but it doesn't matter. This is a must read.

My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, freely me with a complimentary copy of The Silver Dead, via Aethon. Especially with the virus currently disrupting our world, this is both a topical and terrible book to read at the moment. But with the excellent narration of Steve Wesr, it is a book I commend to anyone who likes to read post apocalyptic stories with a near mystical twist.

I started reading this book under it's original title, Immortal and got to about 80% before children and life got in the way. So once it was re-released, I knew I was going to do the audio and start again from the beginning. The new title and cover are a perfect representation of this story.

Steven Savile is known for getting my emotions and swear meter going and this book is no different. I went through the spectrum of emotions. I felt for Temple, he endured so much loss throughout his travels and watching him form friendships was just heartwarming, no matter how doomed they were. I know, I know, it's a dark post-apocalyptic story, how could I find it heartwarming, but I did. There is something just so compelling about the relationships and reactions that Temple has as he tries to find his way. There were funny moments and creepy moments and heartbreaking moments. They all blend together to bring this amazing story to fruition. It is written in such a way that will keep you guessing throughout, wondering who Temple is and why things are happening. For some, it may be confusing but that is also part of the allure, not knowing what or why things are happening and like any good story that sucks you in, there is the big reveal that brings everything together and gives you that final puzzle piece so you have the full picture and can sit back and fully comprehend the awesomeness of what you’ve just experienced and how little nuggets of info we're dropped along the way, making you sit up and go, ’oh, wow. That's what that meant or what that was about’ some more sad than others.

This might have been one of my favourite Steve West performances. His ability to give each character their own voice is pure excellence. Steve brings so much to the character of Temple and his confusion and the trials and tribulations he endures. And that last chapter, insert all the tears. Talk about heartbreaking. Not to mention, he does creepy so well. Seriously, some of these characters were creepy AF. Having read a good portion before doing the audio, I can safely tell you, it's a great book that is even better when listened to. Hearing these characters just gave it a whole new depth. A must listen for sure.

An excellent dark tale following a wandering man looking to understand both his past and future. I recieved a review copy of this book and was not disappointed. It is not a post apocalyptic book, but takes you through a world rapidly descending into cold chaos. The true strength of the book is in the ending which perfectly suits the tone of the book.

I couldn't quite get on with this book, The premise was good enough but the characters seemed a bit 2 dimensional and the fight scenes rather long winded for me. I don't like leaving books unfinished because I always wonder about the characters but I found it hard to empathise with them as the story just didn't grab my attention

I really liked this Audible book provided by Aethon Books.

It was not what i had expected and I am really glad for it. It was dark and funny at times and I thought it was going one way then it took me down a different route and the ending was not what I had expected.

The narration was especially good with good detail and attention to the feeling that the storyline should be at any time.

Overall I would recommend this book! Really Good.

Just finished The Silver Dead.
Really not what I expected when I started and not my normal type of audio book. If you a looking for a book that you can't see where it is going until the end take look at this one.
Sadly I now need to find an new audio book, will be hard to follow this one.

Very dark, and very weird. Stick with it though and it'll prove itself worth the effort. The story starts well, but some scenes are handled in a very long drawn-out fashion, and I must admit to losing concentration about halfway through. Then there's a big event and you think surely the whole story is now over. How is the author going to handle the final third of the story? Keep on listening and you'll be rewarded; as the story plays out you start to feel yourself being dragged in and it all becomes not only clear, but compelling.

The narrator holds the whole book together well.

I wasn't sure if I would like this book, it's a very dark and gory tale of a future world destroyed by a plague, but the story is very well written with an inventive plot line and excellent narration. I recommend it if you like your stories darker.
