About this listen

He only looked away for a second.

Still haunted by the disappearance of his little sister, Amy, over 20 years ago, Joseph Bridgeman’s life has fallen apart. When a friend talks him into seeing hypnotherapist Alexia Finch to help with his insomnia, Joseph accidentally discovers he can time travel. His first trip only takes him back a few minutes, but his new-found ability gives him something he hasn’t felt for the longest time: hope.

Joseph sets out to travel back to the night Amy went missing and save her. But after several failed attempts, he discovers the farther back he travels, the less time he gets to stay there. And the clock is ticking.

With the help of Alexia, Joseph embarks on a desperate race against the past to save his sister. Can he master his new skill and solve the mystery of Amy’s disappearance before it’s too late?

Previously released as The Unexpected Gift of Joseph Bridgeman, this updated version includes extra chapters, new plotlines, and even deeper character development. It makes way for an expanded vision of the Joseph Bridgeman Series, with the first four books released in 2021 and 2022.

Very good story, with a very interesting concept. The only complaint is the American narrator for an English story about English people. It spoilt the book a little. I can only assume this was to accommodate an American audience.

Great book, bad choice of Narrator.

I’m a big time travel fiction fan and I was starting to feel like I’d read most of the genre - and then I discovered this little beauty! I was gripped the whole way through, and really enjoyed the narration too. I couldn’t predict where it was going and was thoroughly surprised at several moments, and I cannot wait for Book 2 now. Thank you Nick for bringing a new time travel series to the genre!

Excellent time travel story!

Not a bad story loads of possibilities for the next instalment so will listen to the next book in the series
Didn’t enjoy the American narration and found his female voices a little annoying
But not enough to put me off the rest of the series

Journey to correct a bad mistake

I had to forgive the narrator for his American accent with many British accents intertwined in the narration. Once I did that and suspended disbelief, it was a good beach listen.

A different sort of time travel

Enjoyable story with a somewhat different slant on time travel and a nice couple of twists. Others have criticised the reader's American accent and lack of authentic Brit voices but it's no big deal, it a book, not a radio play. My only criticism is that some of the background or fill-in details are too long. Aside from that, it kept my interest and I was keen to listen whenever I could. Go for it 👍🏼

Good but a bit wordy

Loved this book and I'm looking forward to listening to the sequel. My only problem is the choice of narrator. Ray Porter does a fantastic job as usual but with this book being set in England I really think an English narrator would have been a better choice. Still, the narration is top notch and adds to the book rather than detracting from it.

Very Entertaining

Not so sure I fully grasped how the timelines worked -all in for a multiverse and parallel universes but felt there was a little discrepancy here. Nonetheless it was very much enjoyed.

Probably my favourite narrator

A really good listen on audible. Such a surprise it was set in my home town and easy to draw parallels with locations. The only disappointment was the final bit of audio….published in 2021! I can’t wait for the next book.

Absolutely brilliant

Such a great story with twists and turns you won’t expect. Written in such a way as to not lose you in detail but gripping enough to make you want more.
The emotional connections to the characters is easy to create and the story becomes enveloping. When the narrator gets excited, distressed, joyous, you feel how he feels and flow along with him.
Don’t read the comments on the American accent being a problem to the story, it really isn’t. The narrators tone is captivating and descriptive, making it very easy to listen to.
Highly recommended.
I am already listening to the next story and have pre ordered the third.
Thank you Nick Jones, your stories are fabulous

Amazing story

This was a very enjoyable listen, marred by one overwhelming inconsistency. The narrator, by their own admission is English, lives in Cheltenham yet inexplicably has an American accent. It isn’t as though the story-reader cannot do an English accent/ he does several, and very well too. Ray Porter is an excellent vocal actor- I loved his Bobiverse narration. So why this absurd vocal choice? Added to this was the mispronounced name of the Malvern Hills( where I live by the way) - to which no self respecting denizen of Cheltenham ( itself pronounced correctly throughout) would admit and I remain totally bemused at this directorial decision.
Great story, well told ( well apart from the above).

Really enjoyed the story - but why an American narrator?
