About this listen

The only book to reveal the true science behind your every daily activity - exploding myths and providing authoritative take-away advice.

Explore the science behind your daily living habits and make your day healthier, happier and more productive.

Many of the activities we take for granted are in fact contrary to a healthy lifestyle. In this groundbreaking audiobook, long-held beliefs are exploded by new science: drinking eight glasses a day is too much, breakfast isn't the most important meal of the day, smartphones are not making us all depressed.

Bringing to bear the latest research in psychology, nutrition, biology and physics, Dr Stuart Farrimond unearths the facts behind the fads and provides take-away advice on every area of our lives - and all delivered in Dr Stu's trademark style: approachable, authoritative and above all entertaining.

The Science of Living debunks pseudo-science and delivers only the facts. One day - one body - more than 200 examples of science in action.

Dr Stuart Farrimond, medical doctor turned food scientist and best-selling DK author, is a science and medical writer, presenter and educator. Here’s a fact for you: the author says ‘here’s a fact for you’ repeatedly and it gets very old very fast

Decent info with annoyances

Loved the bite size info debunking some well known beliefs about why things are in our lives.

Lots of little surprises

There is a lot of information in here, i learned one or two new things and enjoyed it. I was a bit puzzled that he said to 'turn up half the lights' before bedtime, a mistake surely? I listened to it over a few nights and a couple of bits stayed in my mind: 'The hippocampus is the brain's librarian' and 'Dreams are you in your purest form without the distractions of the world.', 'About 90 minutes after leaving the conscious world your brain wakes up and your eyes dart back and forth as if watching a movie screen on the inside of your eyelids.' Mendelev's dream of the periodic table was interesting too, one of the most famous dreams ever and quite rightly so.

Interesting

Dr Farrimond, as usual gives a fascinating listen.
This book however contains graphs and information that doesn't come across in the audio reading of the book.
There are nuggets of information that get lost in the flow of the narration, that need to be digested at the listeners/readers own pace.
Hence I bought the hardback book, along with the other three books written by the author.

so good I bought the tree version

This audiobook contains a very large amount of interesting material, and its scope is broad.

My one minor criticism is that given the amount of material, it would probably be easier to read the book and take it in at your own pace, than the fast pace of the audiobook. Just too much to process for me through listening!

Lots of interesting content

take a shower in the morning.. a cold one and a bath at night.. groundbreaking info!

it's just telling you the basics of life which you should know

Although there is a lot of useful information in this book I was horrified by the lack of knowledge regarding how memories are made especially the impact of trauma on the ability of the brain to make coherent narratives.

Worrying section on memory making
