About this listen

From the bestselling author of The Secret Mother, a chilling tale about revisiting the past—and digging up secrets you’d rather forget.

The invitation to her school reunion couldn’t have come at a better time for Chloe Flynn. Divorced, broke and bored at work, she’s living a life her teenage self would hate. Turning the clock back fifteen years might be just what she needs to wipe the slate clean and start again. And then there’s the chance she’ll bump into Nathan Blake, the one she still regrets letting get away…

Back at her elite private school, Chloe sparkles as she reunites with old friends and long-forgotten love interests. And then, just as she’d hoped, there’s Nathan, more handsome than ever before. Even better, he’s single too, and seems to be just as keen to make up for lost time…

But as the evening progresses, Chloe can’t help feeling that something’s not quite right—that she’s not the only one who’s come here for more than just a party. When the secrets of the past start to emerge and the reunion takes a sinister turn, it’s clear that nothing is what it seems—and nothing will be the same again.

Slow start

I feel it is a slow start and dragged a little up to the actual reunion. Then a fantastic couple of twists sneaked in, which made the book, for me. Didn’t expect the ending either. I would recommend based on the unexpected twists.

Not the greatest narration

The guy acting the character of Dean sounds preposterously menacing! Bizarre choice. Like a comic, exaggerated, gangland thug.

Enjoyed this book

I liked this as it twisted and turned a bit. You had no idea at the beginning how the characters were related and it led you down the garden path a bit but was still not over complicated to follow. Great ending too.

Twist and turns. Looking forward to The Honeymoon ! Just my thing.

Narrators weren’t the best. Bring back Katie Villa. Spoiled it a little , but got used to them towards the end.
If you like an easy listen with a twist to the story as I do this is the book for you.

Brilliant twist

Most of the characters were unlikeable from the start but the plot was so compelling I had to continue.

Not a lot.

The whining narration was really off putting . I felt so annoyed just listening to her.

Chillingly gripping!

I was invested right from the start. The twists and turns of the plot are amazing. Just when you think you know the next move there’s another twist. I never guessed how it would end. A great read right up to the last full stop!

A Story that will keep you guessing

I have read or listened to several Shalini Boland stories so I have a good idea what to expect when I start one of her new books. This story did not disappoint!

A high school reunion is not ideal for everyone and especially not if high school was not the best time of your life or if there was drama or secrets from back then you would rather forget all about. Despite all these reasons being there for Chloe, she still decides to go and face them all, the mean girls, her ex and all the rest. What happens at the reunion and in the aftermath definitely surprised me!

What I liked:
- the story kept me guessing & gripped until the end
- twists that I did not see coming
- the story was told from POV of multiple people and using multiple narrators

What I didn't like:
- not all narrators were equally good
- Chloe comes across as immature
- Dean's character was a little inconsistent
- the ending
