About this listen

This is a story of physical bravery, moral courage, and the power of redemption from the man who led the charge in stopping the terrorist attack at Fishmongers' Hall in November 2019.

From cell fires to violent feuds and gang battles on prison wings, after being sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, what Steve witnessed at HMP Frankland made him change his life forever. After losing everything, he vowed to never use violence again.

In November 2019, Steve's redemptive journey led him to a Learning Together event at Fishmongers' Hall, hosted by his mentor, Jack Merritt, and attended by Saskia Jones. It was here, on his first day out of prison on day release, that Steve was forced to break his vow as he bravely confronted and fought armed-terrorist Usman Khan on London Bridge. Armed just with a narwhal tusk, Steve wrestled and held Khan to the ground while he waited for the police to arrive.

In October 2020 Steve was granted a royal prerogative of mercy in recognition of his actions at London Bridge. In August 2021 he was released from prison and in March 2023 he was awarded a Queen's Gallantry Medal, the final civilian gallantry awards approved by the late Queen.

This is Steve Gallant's powerful and inspiring story of redemption told in full for the first time.

A real story of Steven’s life turns around

I completely enjoyed this, I must admit I knew Steven from Transco and did not have a very high opinion of him.

Listening to this however it seems that he has turned something so bad into a positive experience and life for him.

I listened to this book and was glued to it.

A Very sad sequence of events but I’m sure this man has turned his life around and I wish him all the success of life to come.

The book is a really intriguing insight into the evens of his life and of what happened in London.

The Road to London Bridge

What an interesting account of this man’s life. It has made me rethink of my views of the judicial system.
Given the chance some prisoners can make something good of their life.
It was very interesting to hear that the vow never to be involved in any act of violence again on the 1st day out of prison he is involved in a very serious act of violence and thank god this man did what he did saving many other lives. A brilliant in-site into your life.
Thank you.

This book will change the world

This book is fantastic and the takeaways were profound, 1) people can be rehabilitated, 2) politicians make terrible and harmful decisions based on a misconception that they can’t.
Steve’s is an important book, one which I am sure will help immesurably to turn the tide in favour of compassion in the criminal justice system.

Inspiring

After seeing Steve on BBC Breakfast I pre-purchased his book. It was a riveting read and told an honest account of his journey through the prison system to that fateful day on London Bridge when he bravely fought the terrorist (with others) who was on the rampage. It is an inspiring story of how lives can be turned around through education and personal insight. It raises the question of should prison be solely about punishment (as many think) or should there be opportunities for rehabilitation and hope for the future and a better life?
I wish you well Steve.

Must Read!

This is an insightful and powerful record of experiences that are completely unique. Very well written and read, it is a comprehensive account of an epic journey of self development, observation and reflection. Delving into a multitude of problem within the prison system.
It held my interest, inspired me and made me think about my own life.
The world needs this book, and this man. In it.

Fantastic book

I was intrigued to purchase this book, from recalling the London Bridge incident and previously working within a criminal justice organisation & charity. The book is read by the author, which I always find makes it more personal. It was very well written and narrated. The account of the journey so far in the authors life is truly thought-provoking and should be consumed by those setting offender management policies and processes. It's so good to see that people do change their lives after such terrible events. It should give hope and inspiration to others. It's certainly aroused my thoughts around overcoming adversities.
