About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
For fans of Poverty Safari and Skint Estate, That Peckham Boy is a real-life manifesto calling for positive change for those on the fringes of society.
'When you're writing the story of your life, make sure you're holding the pen. In this life you can be whoever you want to be.'
Two days after his eighteenth birthday, Kenny Imafidon was charged with the murder of a seventeen-year-old boy in south-east London. The middle child of a single mother with ambitions for her children, Kenny grew up near an estate in Peckham where deprivation and hopelessness were rife, and gang culture flourished in his community. Kenny faced a minimum of thirty years behind bars - longer than the life he had lived.
When the case against Kenny collapsed, he quickly realised that his name was still inextricably linked with a horrific crime he hadn't committed. He decided to rewrite his story. It began with The Kenny Report, which he delivered to the House of Commons and which detailed the experiences of marginalised young people who drift into gangs, and has led to extensive work with charities, communities and policy-makers that is helping to change the narratives of other young people just like Kenny.
A candid and unfiltered take on some of the most challenging topics that define our times, That Peckham Boy is a personal manifesto exploring what it means to be young, Black and poor in the city. It is shaped by Kenny's difficult childhood, his transformative time in prison, and the people and conversations that took him from being on trial for murder into the company of some of the most successful people in the world.

Listening to the audio version was a revelation. From start to finish it had me completely hooked, refusing to release its hold on my mind. The combination of Kenny's narrators' skilled storytelling brought the characters and their experiences to life in a way that has left me speechless.
I found myself engrossed for an entire day, unable to tear myself away from this book. One of the remarkable aspects of this book was its ability to captivate audiences of all ages. I took the opportunity to share parts of it with my 12-year-old son during our car ride, and witnessing his engagement with the material was a testament to its power. He even said to me “ Mum, why have you gone so far into the book without me” when he realised I had continued listening to it without him.
The theme of this book is not only relevant to me personally but also presented with depth and clarity that resonates in so many ways. It sparked conversations between me and my son that brought us closer together to openly discuss the book, and for that, I am grateful.
Kenny's exceptional storytelling and his ability to tackle thought-provoking topics with sensitivity deserves the highest praise. This book has provided me with a fresh perspective, challenging my preconceptions and opening my eyes to new ideas, especially as a mother raising a young black boy who is currently going through a number of experiences at present.
The profound impact it’s had on me is indescribable. I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to Kenny for penning this eye-opening book. The courage and dedication required to bring such a powerful narrative to life is truly commendable. My respect for the author has skyrocketed to unprecedented heights, as he has crafted a masterpiece that will undoubtedly leave a mark on readers for generations to come.
In conclusion, this book is an absolute triumph and a must read, I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone seeking an unforgettable reading experience that will challenge, inspire, and enlighten.
Thank you, Kenny, for sharing your remarkable gift with the world.
This book is simply the Epitome of Brilliance!

Kenny is someone bible stories are based on as he is clearly favoured by God. Despite being ‘that Peckham Boy’ his higher calling led him out of the darkest moments to the brightest lights.
Incredible story!

One lesson learned & loved was “Everyone is a lawyer when it comes to their actions but a judge when looking at others actions” (Paraphrasing)
Gripping and gems-filled, from start to finish
