Colin Sutton is widely acknowledged as the most eminent Metropolitan Police detective of the last thirty years. His career was diverse, from a uniformed inspector to murder squad detective and eventually Detective Chief Inspector and it was the latter role that brought him to the public attention when he led the teams that caught serial killer Levi Bellfield and ‘Night Stalker’ Delroy Grant, cases which inspired the hit ITV dramas Manhunt, starring Martin Clunes.

In this book, Sutton gives listeners a glimpse into the life of a top tier police detective and revisits some of the other cases he led throughout his career, all against a backdrop of his own life. He goes into great detail about the investigations, starting from the moment the call came in right through to bringing the cases to trial, and all whilst having to deal with the pressures of being at the top.

I really enjoyed the content of this, but the way Colin narrates it is just excellent, he narrates/reads it in such a chatty way as though he's sat in the room with you,

I was really looking forward to starting this book. I’d saved it especially for my holiday. I struggled on to chapter 3 and have given up. The background noise is so distracting it’s impossible to concentrate on the narrator. The story is interesting and well told but I just can’t continue. There’s squeaky doors, what sounds like someone washing up and various other sounds.

....as far as how the end of his 1st career came to a close,it's reflective of the fact far too many people in high level management are guided by ego's, insecurity and narcissism and far too many of the best employees become victims or targets of these weak leaders.....

Loved it well read great stories off his early life as a police officer very down to earth guy i want more stories from the real manhunter chapter 3 is like the movie lock stock and barell

I’ve listened to all of Colin Sutton’s books and he makes what can be difficult listening easier to listen to. He’s not over the top with gore but gives you enough information for you to follow the investigation. Colin & his team are how great detective work should be done. It’s so much better when the author reads the book and he’s got such an easy voice to listen to. I’ve been to 2 of his public speaking events and they were absolutely brilliant and was delighted to be able to meet him afterwards. If that’s not enough he’s a fellow

great listen, Colin details his experiences so will and honestly, describes his line in the police so well and more than anything, puts the emphasis on the victim.
