About this listen

“It's me, love … I'm The Yorkshire Ripper.”

With new material from personal interviews with Peter Sutcliffe–I'm the Yorkshire Ripper offers a completely new insight into the shocking life and times of one of Britain's most notorious serial killers.

When Peter Sutcliffe spoke those words to his wife Sonia following his arrest in 1981, it marked the end of a killing spree which had terrorised northern England for five years. The nation had been appalled yet gripped by the Ripper and was now fascinated by the man behind the headlines.

But despite millions of words being written about the case since his arrest 40 years ago, the full Peter Sutcliffe story has never been told–until now.

Based on a vast quantity of raw material collected from Sutcliffe himself over a period of 16 years, ‘I'm the Yorkshire Ripper' is the compelling account of the most terrifying series of murders in British history–much of it in the killer's own words.

This was extremely interesting. The story of Sutcliffe has been told many times but this one really stands out. The narrators are brilliant. Highly recommend.

Really interesting

I've read/listened to a few books about Sutcliffe, and each one has bits of information that the others don't. And this one didn't disappoint. Narrator has a good, clear Yorkshire accent, but tended to sound a bit monotonous at times. Not enough to spoil it though.
It mentions the time when Jimmy Savile, asked Sutcliffe to paint a portrait of him to hang in Stoke Mandeville hospital!
Could you imagine that! Having a portrait of a paedophile, painted by a serial killer hanging in there!

Better than I thought it would be!

I couldn’t stop listening so well read and put together. Fascinating to find out new things after all these years. I can’t recommend this book enough.

Growing up in Yorkshire albeit a little distance from most of the crimes. Peter Sutcliffe blighted the teenage years of me and many others like me. We had so much freedom in those days and here we were being reminded each time we went out that there was a murderer very close by and to always be on our guard. Listening to the actual geography of how close he was on so many occasions is blood curdling. I'll never believe he had diminished responsibility and thankfully neither did the judge on that day nor the jury. He learned of psychiatric illness first hand through watching his wife and used it as a defence. He was evil with a bitterness toward all women not just working girls. Those women and girls never stood a chance with his cowardly attacks from behind! My heart still goes out to the families who will still be suffering from this man's heinous crimes.

Well written and Well read

An in depth account, well written and read by the narrator.I lived through the atrocities caused by this terrible man, every day women lived in dread and fear. It brings it all back, and listening to a lot of Sutcliffes own words throughout the book you re-live those times... very chilling!! Many of us will never forget and each woman who was attacked and/or murdered will be etched in our minds forever. RIP ladies you and your families never deserved the hurt God bless you all 💔

Excellent!

Reading between the lines, a repressed homosexual who couldn’t face his own sexuality murders and maims women concocting a defence when caught off “ God told me” and then spent years eating and drinking at the tax payers expense, while enjoying art classes with Jimmy Savile.

Some interesting points on his character
