About this listen

Forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway has excavated a body from the grounds of Norwich Castle, a forbidding edifice that was once a prison. She believes the body may be that of infamous Victorian murderess Jemima Green. Called Mother Hook for her claw-like hand, Jemima was hanged in 1867 for the murder of five children in her care.

DCI Harry Nelson has no time for long-dead killers. Immersed in the case of three infants found dead, one after the other, in their King’s Lynn home, he’s convinced that a family member is responsible, though others on his team think differently. Then a child goes missing. Could the abduction be linked to the long-dead Mother Hook? Ruth is pulled into the case, and back towards Nelson.

enjoyed the book very much

Another great story. I enjoyed this snd find the characters come right out of the book so real. I have this on Audible and find the narrator exceptional, the way she takes on the child voice is wonderful.

Excellent story telling narrative & characters

This series is so so good and draws the reader in from the start. The narrative is excellent and the characters are multi layered and blend together well. The development of the story was good and the end brought everything together. I would highly recommend and cant wait for the next installment.

Just one complaint

I love these books , the stories and characters are great but why does the narrator have to shout everything time it is a child’s voice. It is not plausible .This does spoil the listening experience for me

Charming and sofisticated thriller !

Well, I have listened to all the books in the series and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. This 6th book was no diferent and the thriller as well as the continued drama of the characters developed and thrived. I love the lead character Ruth and think that these books could easily be turned in to a tv series, it would beat the socks off some of the current ones ! A really submersive listening experience and a great story line that keeps giving.

Improvement On Previous Book in The Series

More enjoyable than the trip to Blackpool in the previous book. Also, Cathbad makes a return which for fans was a worry from the last story.

Easy listen

I have to admit that it's not one of the best crime novels that I have read but it is certainly worth the time of day. For me it was an easy listen and I will be purchasing her other books in the series. I did rather enjoy it. Claire Corbett always does a superb performance as she always does and makes the whole experience for the listener.

Loved It

I am enjoying all of the Dr Ruth Galloway books that I have listened to so far. (8) The characters are brought to life by the narrator and you can lose yourself in the story. The historical information is also very interesting plus the descriptions of the various areas of Norfolk, which is a very beautiful county. I will be collecting all the series and once I have them all, I will re-listen to them all in their proper sequence.
Well worth a credit per book.
