Really enjoyable listen.
The new book in the Detective's Daughter Series was eagerly anticipated. This did not disappoint. It was great to meet up with Stella, Jack and all the old friends again. I loved the past and present day aspect and the setting in the Wartime house provided such an intriguing focal point to the mystery. The main characters' relationship had reached a turning point so their holiday posed a big question for Stella.The Narrator was very good at taking the listener back in time to 1940's village life where secrets were buried.

It was lovely to be back with Stella and Jack, and to have Toni Kemp’s cameo with her chocolate bars was brilliant :) A fantastic nostalgic read exploring past and present day issues, with clever twists and turns until the end. Lesley is one of our best crime writers and this series keeps getting better! Narrator is great too.

Whoever wrote the Audible blurb obviously had not heard the book. I spent the first hour wondering who the mysterious Stevie was, and a churchyard funeral for a man said to have been killed at Dunkirk caused more confusion.
Beyond those errors, the plot is sound; but this is part of a series with so many references to past events heaped in that it doesn't work well as a stand-alone book.
