About this listen

For Mrs Pargeter, it is a matter of principle that she should complete any of her late husband's unfinished business. Amongst his many bequests, perhaps the most valuable is his little black book, in which he listed all the people who ever worked for him, with details of their particular skill sets. This means that whenever Mrs P has a crime to solve, she can readily contact someone with the relevant expertise.

Attending the funeral of the respected Sir Normington Winthrop, because his name is in the book, Mrs Pargeter sets out to discover the connection between Sir Normington and her late husband. Her investigations will draw her into a shady world of gunrunners, shifty politicians - and a kidnapped vicar.

I love Mrs Pargeter. for a rich widow who's involved with "criminals" they're all rather cosy. I knew that pink cat would come in handy... and the zipper zapper.

I rediscovered the brilliant Simon Brett and his “Mrs Pargetta “ series, it would be wonderful to have more of them on audible, especially when narrated by the author!

If you liked the Mrs Harris stories you will like this . The writing is excellent as with all Simon Brett’s work the dialogue flows so wonderfully . His narration is excellent too

Being a fan of the more gentle murder-mysteries set in the Golden Age of Crime fiction I don’t always like modern versions. So I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this Mrs Pargeter book. It proved to be a joy, even though as a Suffolk girl I find the Essex accent a tad jarring! It is laugh-out-loud funny, satisfyingly concluded (some might find it a bit twee but I like it) and I immediately got the next in the series. Audible, please get the previous 6 books into your catalogue!!

The gentle story and great narration is calming but never boring. I hope there are more in this series.

The main characters - they are so genuine and have a certain naivety that is hard to find these days, but is so endearing

I really enjoy Simon Brett's books. Mrs Pargeter is my favourite character of his, although Charles Paris is also great. The reading has a wide variety of voices and is overall easy and enjoyable to listen too. Thank you Simon Brett for the many hours of enjoyment you have given me over the years.
