About this listen

In Cathy Lamb's gripping and thought-provoking novel, a woman whose memory is shattered must piece together her husband's secrets - and reevaluate her life, love, and relationships.

When Natalie Shelton thinks back to how things were before the car accident, she remembers a great marriage. She and her husband, Zack, seem as strong and dependable together as the houses he builds. They live in Portland, Oregon, and Natalie is co-owner of a successful accounting firm. They're happy, she's almost sure of it.

Yet as Natalie lies trapped in a coma, unable to communicate though aware of everything around her, she realizes that her husband is hiding something. Zack has always been reticent about his past, which she attributed to an unhappy childhood. Now the strange calls he's receiving, the apologies when he thinks she can't hear him, and her fragmented memories from the morning of the accident suggest a deeper secret.

When she finally awakens, Natalie is determined to find out the truth. Sorting through clues as her brain heals, she realizes she has a rare opportunity - to reexamine the life she's made and the man she's made it with. But as answers come to light, she faces surprising, heartrending decisions, as well as a danger that could upend her world once again, as Zack's past finally catches up with them.

Such an unusual story it took me a while to get used to it and the narration style but I really enjoyed it. It is witty, and sometimes ridiculous (the mums character for instance) but it kept me engaged. What an unusual book!

An unusual story

Really enjoyed this book, it kept me wanting to listen right the way through. Good story from start to finish and the narrator was easy to listen to.

Great story throughout

Loved everything about this book, the story, the characters, loved her pals, the narration. One of those ones you can’t put down, just as well it was on Audible so I didn’t have to, otherwise I’d have been curled up on the couch from start to finish. If asked if there was anything I’d change I might have said I’d have preferred not to heR the prologue, I don’t know if it would have upped the suspense for me or if a lot of the book just wouldn’t have made sense. But you can’t unknown’s something and sometimes i wondered if I’d have been more in the leads shoes if I hadn’t heard the first few minutes. Anyway, it didn’t spoil the story and I’d highly recommend the book.

Brilliant

I loved this book so much. The author describes the characters with all their flaws and positive’s, I was so invested in the people that I was far less interested in the storyline, I just wanted to hear about the characters. This is unheard of for me!

A tale about humans

This was a very long story with details that did not seem to enhance the story. The ending was less than underwhelming. Great performance from the narrator!

Great story, plenty of depth and interesting plot line. The main character Natalie is fun and very relatable..the story follows her life as dramatic hidden secrets unfold..I really enjoyed it and will be looking out for other titles from this author. The narrator is excellent too.

A book full of intrigue and beautiful friendships

Picked this up as part of the Audible Plus catalogue, without much expectation. Just thought I’d give it a try, then move on after chapter if I didn’t like it. It is beautifully written and narrated. Every character is well-defined. There’s no filler and no time wasted on flabby descriptions. I loved every minute and didn’t want it to end. I’ve now put all the other Cathy Lamb books on Audible in my wish list 🙂
