About this listen

John Carver has three rules: Don't drink in the daytime, don't gamble when the luck has gone, and don't talk to the dead people who come to visit.

It has been almost five years since the incident in Kabul. Since the magic stirred within him and the stories began. Fleeing the army, running from the whispers, the guilt, and the fear he was losing his mind, Carver fell into addiction, dragging himself through life one day at a time.

Desperation has pulled him back to Afghanistan, back to the heat, the dust, and the truth he worked so hard to avoid. But there are others, obsessed with power and forbidden magics, who will stop at nothing to learn the truth of his gifts. Abducted and chained, Carver must break more than his own rules if he is to harness this power and survive.

I came to this after reading the incredible epic fantasy trilogy. An incredible achievement by the same author. I also really rate Gildert Jackson.
I’m have enjoyed Alex Verus series, Rivers of London and lot of other urban fantasy cross genre series.
I can’t believe that I haven’t discovered this author before. I really hope that there are sequels for this title. There’s so much more to explore about how they came into their powers, about the characters’ development and the adventures they have, and about the operation into which they were kidnapped. )It’s too big to belong to one person.)
I wonder if they get recruited by another agency…
Looking forward to the next episode, please!

Excellent urban fantasy meets reacher

I liked this book very much. A big departure from the Fae series so I was a little nervous as to if I would like it. Well I did like it the characters were well developed and I enjoyed sitting in their minds for a while. The story has a good pace to it jumping between the main protagonists before joining them together. It would be nice if there was a follow on from this book but it does stand alone if it is to be a solo book.

Great Character development

stumbled across this by accident and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Nice to hear a pretty decent British story without over top accent of Americanisms slipped into English grammar. hopefully a series will follow

Did care about characters. Quite gritty at times but balanced with wry humour.
Accent took some getting used to as deep but actually was quite good, except for the Australian female which was a bit dodgy, but story was good enough to put up with it.

Good story, kept my attention. Unexpected Sci fi aspect.

It's a great story. The army bits are well researched and not over written. The dark fantastical bits are also well written. Characters are sarcastic and very clear. You can't go wrong.

Brilliant story and narration
