About this listen

In the vein of The Time Traveler's Wife and Life After Life, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is New York Times best-selling author V. E. Schwab's genre-defying tour de force.

When Addie La Rue makes a pact with the devil, she trades her soul for immortality. But there's always a price - the devil takes away her place in the world, cursing her to be forgotten by everyone. Addie flees her tiny home town in 18th-century France, beginning a journey that takes her across the world, learning to live a life where no one remembers her and everything she owns is lost and broken. Existing only as a muse, she learns to fall in love anew every single day. Until one day, in a second-hand bookshop in Manhattan, Addie meets someone who remembers her. Suddenly thrust back into a real, normal life, Addie realises she can't escape her fate forever.

OMG! Just wonderful.

I don’t say OMG! But words fail me. This was so wonderful. It was entertaining, engrossing, the characters will live with me for a while. It is beautifully written. I didn’t feel it was too long rather that every word was the right word and I am no fan of tautology.

Even with the authors style of repeating words (which would usually be eye roll inducing), think politicians repeating the same word three times, this was not that! It was clever and effective and emotional and brilliant.

I’m no wordsmith and nothing I say would do justice to this book. I have had this in my library for so long, was reluctant to start, and thought I’d never actually listen, I’m so glad I did. It is not my usual genre, it must have been a 2 for 1 deal, where I try to buy something I like and one I wouldn’t use a credit on. And books like this are exactly what you would hope for in that scenario but seldom are.

The narration was also beautifully done. And I hope both the author and the narrator where thrilled by the talents of the others artistry.

Just, wonderful.

Beautiful story, superb narration.

The story kept me captivated from beginning to end. The narrator is amazing - lovely voice, tones, accents. You can hear she is a professional actor. Really enjoyed listening to this audio book.

A joy to listen to

It’s been a while since I have truly enjoyed a book with such gusto, a story that is dark but with hope and love but ends a bit differently than I had guessed so bonus points to the author for second guessing me, narration was excellent except for a brief blip at the end with Julia whelan attempting English accents 😳

Beautiful story about the meaning of life and regret

I thought this was an engrossing listen and I found myself enveloped in Addie's story. I kept rooting for her and hoping she would be ok.

It is a moving story about the need to leave a mark on the world during your life and the heartbreak of having no one remember you.

The voice acting is very well done and I am a still amazed at how the narrator was able to have believable unique voices for each character.

Brilliant book just could have been edited a bit more

Brilliant book but as another review I read said could have been about a third shorter than it is. Wonderful story beautifully written. It just slowed and felt repetitive and a little indulgent of the author at times.
