About this listen

At 29, Claire is full of the joys of life - that is, until her husband leaves her on the day she gives birth to her baby. With a broken heart, a beautiful newly born and an expanding mirror image, she decides to visit her eccentric family in Dublin. There she starts to feel better. So much better, in fact, that James is in for a surprise when he decides to slither back into her life.

fabulous

An entertaining look at life which had me bursting out laughing and listening with delight and anticipation from start to finish. The characters must be taken from real life people because they are so believable and funny.
I love this author and the narrator would have you believe that its Marion speaking directly to the reader. Im off to buy the next one.

It's a Marian Keyes nuff said.

An early saga no mobile phones and quite a long listen but very worth it.
Good characters and plenty of humour brought to life by Gerri Halligan.
Listened the bulk whilst out walking and finding myself getting irate and looking like an idiot.

An easy listen

Main character very frustrating at times. A lot about looks and beauty and being thin.

Do we really need to ‘translate’ it for Americans?

If I’m reading a story set in New York, or LA, I don’t need ‘’American’ words to be anglicised for me. I usually know what they mean. Local dialect is part of the character of a book. And if I don’t understand them, I can look them up. So why are Dubliners in this book using random American words like ‘diaper’ or ‘parking lot’ etc. etc. It sounds unnatural, it’s pointless, and it’s annoying.

Great listen, fantastic narrator

I’ve listened to this story twice now.
Very funny and entertaining though a bit weak in one part. The narrator is one of the best I’ve heard. I shall find more stories narrated by her.
