About this listen

There are millions of stories. Some magical, some tragic, others terror-filled or triumphant. Jonah Kirk’s story is all of these things as he introduces his indomitable ‘piano man’ grandfather; his single mother, a beautiful, struggling singer; and every day saints and sinners who will change the course of Jonah’s life. Welcome to The City, a place where enchantment and malice entwine, and the way forward lies buried deep inside the heart.

Have loved the last 5 audiobooks by this author.
This one is much slower in pace- beautifully told but never really takes off until the last few chapters

slow burner

I have loved Koontz since I first picked up my dad’s copy of Door to December 30 years ago. I was hooked and have read pretty much everything he’s written since

This was a disappointment. Brilliantly performed by the narrator, but just took forever to get going, and whilst I loved the linking together of the past murders, the whole tale just sort of muddled along.

I suppose one disappointing read in the dozens I’ve loved is not a bad ratio though!

Probably my least favourite Koontz book

a bit slow to start - but once under way, excellent. Story good, fascinating, interesting. Not done Koontz before, was enjoyably surprised and will check out other of his stuff. Reader superb.... he "got" the characters well.

slow to start but ....

What a lovely surprise! I so enjoyed this book, loved the characters and the humanity and love within the story, even though there were some “butter down” moments for the characters. The narration was perfect, I will definitely be listening to this book again!

Loved this book!

a bit slow this one

I couldn't wait for this story to end. One of Mr Koont's worst books. Nothing wrong with the narrator, it's not his fault that the story was so dull and uninteresting.

Average

Extremely boring novel.
The narrator did his best, but really didn't have a lot to work with.
Sorry I bought this, I have enjoyed all the author's other works .

Was this really Dean Koontz?

Good job it was a free book! Wouldn’t off been happy paying for it.

Story is too slow and boring. No action whatsoever.

Slow and boring

Too slow and boring for me, great narration, but just not my cup of tea, it’s just a story about his granddad and a piano, not for me.

Bit slow

This is a story that is charmingly told, but told too slowly and not enough happens. The different elements introduced oh-so-slowly don't really come together in any satisfying way at the end. Not one of Koontz's best.

Charming but overlong
