About this listen

THE LATEST BOOK FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR AND CREATOR OF THE HIT NETFLIX DRAMAS THE STRANGER AND THE WOODS, described by Dan Brown as 'the modern master of the hook and twist'

____________________________

Thirty years ago, a child was found in the New Jersey backwoods.

He had been living a feral existence, with no memory of how he got there or even who he is. Everyone just calls him Wilde.

Now a former soldier and security expert, he lives off the grid, shunned by the community - until they need him.

A child has gone missing. With her family suspecting she's just playing a disappearing game, nobody seems concerned except for criminal attorney Hester Crimstein. She contacts Wilde, asking him to use his unique skills to find the girl.

But even he can find no trace of her. One day passes, then a second, then a third.

On the fourth, a human finger shows up in the mail.

And now Wilde knows this is no game. It's a race against time to save the girl's life - and expose the town's dark trove of secrets...

Critic reviews

'The first-class thriller you'd expect from a master ... his descriptions of the ploys used by sociopathic politicians to corrupt objective truth & render the news somehow negotiable are the best I've ever seen, read or heard.' JAMES O'BRIEN

'Thriller-lovers who just want some adrenaline to lift their spirits should escape with this riveting page-turner from the hugely popular author and screenwriter, Harlan Coben' MAIL ONLINE

'One of the world's finest thriller writers is at the very top of his game' PETER JAMES

Loved the book but was hoping for a little tie up with Wild’s story/ repressed memories!?
None the less great story.

I read The Match first not realising this was the first book and the above the sequel but they stand alone well. I’m thoroughly invested in the lead characters and will miss Wild and Hester Crimpstein!!! More please Mr Coben! Such great thrillers! And would make fantastic films too.

Fell headlong into this story!

excellent performance from narrator this is the first time I've read Harlan Coben book and it won't be the last this book in particular I was very impressed with sub plot upon subplot and keeps you guessing to the end. highly recommended

I enjoyed the story but was irritated by the cheesy names Crash and Dash of the significant characters. This alone has reduced my rating of this book. I did however like the characterisation of Wilde (good name in this case). I did see the plot twists coming

Good story shame about the names

Narrator is great. His best novel in some time. Recommend big time. Hard to put down, you have to know how it ends. great characters

Harlan Coben is a fantastic writer, one of the best as posing a dilemma and then taking you through the journey.
This story whilst enjoyable to to listen to or read struck me as lazy or completed in a rush. It had a big scope to focus on, a guy wanting to be President of the USA but used a really skirted the edges of what is could have, should have been.
The usual pace of writing, the development of strong characters, who I liked but let them down with a bit of a weak premise to move forward with, which I think is my gripe.
It may translate well to TV where we can suspend belief a little more at times.
Great performance from Steven Weber.

Enjoyable listen but forgetable

Another great story, kept me speculating until the final line!
The complexity of the characters is compelling as the whole story unfolds. Resonance with current affairs across the world give this a sense of realism that is truly gripping.

Totally emerged
