About this listen
From the ashes of Arsuf rises Sir Thomas, blood of the Warlord.
When his father is killed at Arsuf protecting King Richard, Thomas is knighted. His hopes of inheriting his family's manor are dashed when Prince John takes power in his brother's absence. With a handful of men, Sir Thomas is forced to travel to Sweden where he joins the Jarl Birger Brosa fighting the Estonians, Karelians and Slavs. Fighting in the harsh environment of a Baltic winter makes Sir Thomas and his men stronger. There he learns of further treachery and dishonour among Bishops, Kings and Princes who value thrones more than men.

Accents
I have listened to a lot of Marsden York’s narrations but don’t recall his somewhat ridiculous foreign accents which almost spoiled a good tale. As this is the first in the saga I may pass on the others which is a shame but that’s the gamble with audio books.

lots of action with well formed characters
enjoyed the unique location for crusading. the accents of the reader were tedious for the Scandinavians and Welsh which seemed to mrld into one. Glad I persevered as story was good

Excellent narration
I really enjoy listening to Marston York's narration. He brings the story to life. I enjoy Griff Hosker's books. Exciting and intense, he keeps to the true historical facts while forming his own story around that.

Lack of story.
If you are interested in ancient military strategy then this is for you. Very detailed narrative of battle and slaughter! If you want a good story forget it!

Simple tale, simply written.
Almost laughable in its simplicity, The narrator did his best but the accents he uses are sometimes unintentionally funny.

Lacks depth
The plot is simplistic and it progresses very much in a straight line. I won’t try book to which is a shame as I enjoy historical fiction series but this isn’t on par with offerings from the likes of B Cornwall, C Iggulden, S Scarrow, D Gilman or B Kane.
