About this listen

Captain Jack Hale and his crew of ragtag scavengers live by a code. They do the job, get paid, and keep their heads down.

Salvaging a distant section of the asteroid belt seemed like the perfect job. But when he and his crew stumble across a mining camp filled with dead bodies, their plans for a quick payday quickly go out the airlock. Especially when they find a scared little girl who knows the truth about the massacre.

When Captain Hale refuses to turn over the survivor to those behind the slaughter, he and his crew become outlaws. Fugitives in a system controlled by an alien AI.

The odds are against him, but Captain Hale has an ace up his sleeve, or rather, in his blood. The secret might just give him an edge to beat Sol Corps at their own game, though exposing it will draw out an old and even more dangerous enemy.

The sins of his past may just be what saves the future for all mankind.

It's Harlock: Space Pirate meets The Expanse in this pulse-pounding military sci-fi series from Rachel Aukes, the best-selling author of Black Sheep, Rebel's Run, and 100 Days in Deadland.

"Cease."

By the end of the twenty first century, Earth has extended out into near space, but had also taken it's squabbles which threatened to destabilize humanity. Then, seemingly from nowhere as conflict was about to take place, the Waymaker appeared with the single message, 'Cease'. All Corps United the world factions, scientific progress occurred and a plan was conceived to explore outer space. One of the crew members selected was a man later to be known as Captain Jack Hale.

This book by Rachel Aukes is most enjoyable with interesting characterisation, unusual plotline and an exciting mix of fight and thriller action - a very good balance. An initial mystery is solved but there is so much still to be explored.
Narration is by Scott Aiello, always a safe choice for excellence of performance: free from editing glitches, a pleasing voice, well articulated, paced and with good intonation. Add in the distinctive individual protagonist voicing and this is a fine performance. The

I downloaded my complimentary copy from the Audible Plus programme - Thank you, Audible - and I look forward to book two in the Waymaker War series, also part of Audible Plus.

One of the best

There are some good audio books and then are those that excel. For me Space Junk excelled all expectations.

Good story, adequate noarration, worth a listen.

This is a book that is concentrating on story telling and NOT " one guys hero fantasies" which is apparently a rarity in spaceship based sci-fi this days, so if you are in a mood for a space adventure story - this might very well scratch that itch.

Enjoyable read

A fun read, characters develop really nicely, story has enough twist and turns to keep you guessing.

Captain Jack

Unusual circumstances have led a rag tag group of space junkers to own their own cool space ship. Led by their tough guy, no nonsense (but with a heart of gold) captain they have the run of the heavens but are on the run from the authorities, getting into one adventure after the next. A kid wants to join their group and but the captain's reluctant (at first) etc, etc. Familiar? Of course it is, derivative, formulaic? Yes. Worth a listen? Maybe, if it's complimentary in the plus catalogue. I found it moderately entertaining though I don't feel compelled to continue the series.
