About this listen

Features a new exclusive introduction read by author Orson Scott Card.

From the author of Ender’s Game, the major motion picture!

A complex fate. A deadly path. Book two in the New York Times bestselling series Publishers Weekly calls “an epic in the best sense.”

When Rigg and his friends crossed the Wall between the only world they knew and a world they could not imagine, he hoped he was leading them to safety. But the dangers in this new wallfold are more difficult to see. Rigg, Umbo, and Param know that they cannot trust the expendable, Vadesh - a machine shaped like a human, created to deceive - but they are no longer certain that they can even trust one another. But they will have little choice. Because although Rigg can decipher the paths of the past, he can’t yet see the horror that lies ahead: A destructive force with deadly intentions is hurtling toward Garden. If Rigg, Umbo, and Param can’t work together to alter the past, there will be no future.

The adventure, suspense, and time travel continue in this second installment in the critically acclaimed New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestselling Pathfinder series.

Complicated but very enjoyable. You have to listen or you will miss a twist or two and you can't go back to change it!

Lovely performances ; music can be quite jarring if you’re not expecting it. Descriptions are great. Enjoyed

Nice follow on

I felt this was a good continuation of vol. 1, although vol. 1 a little better. I would have liked the book ti have a finish so it could have felt complete on its own. Now the ending feels a little abrupt, although not surprising. So not a 5-er this time.

Good follow-up of Pathfinder

I really enjoyed Book 1 of the series and generally rate Orson Scott Card and the story of this book was fine.... but... and a huge but... the characters were utter miserable, obnoxious, jealous, intolerant messes and just made me hope most of them would die.

The main dialogue was bad but enough, then we also had tons of long insane internal monologues where they would even recognise their own insanity but then just continue anyway. The majority of interactions turned into petty sniping for no reason. The characters are like a cheap soap opera characters or Jerry Springer guests or caricature American high school teens. I've read/listened too many hundreds of books and this is easy in the top 10 of dismal failures.

Miserable obnoxious characters
