About this listen
From USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Jenshak comes a standalone fake dating sports romance. This steamy, grumpy / sunshine football romance delivers a swoony and emotional happily ever after.
Brogan Six’s fan mail has been filling my mailbox for weeks. With every lipstick covered letter I receive, my irritation with him grows. And let’s not talk about the time I accidentally opened one of the packages to find someone had sent him their panties. Gross. When I come face-to-face with my new nemesis, I expect to give him a piece of my mind and we’ll go our separate ways. Me to an empty mailbox and him to sift through his panty collection. That is not what happens.
I don’t know if it was the booze, his clever wit, or if I was tricked (I’m sure I was tricked), but now I’m fake dating the Mavericks’ hot new rookie. And I might just be the next woman to lose her panties to Brogan Six. Playbook is a standalone fake dating, grumpy/sunshine sports romance with banter, found family, spice, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

There is some angst and drama along the way, and although it has the potential to be quite deep and heart wrenching, I found it all a bit shallow and lacking depth. There are a few dead ends in the story arc, Chris for example? What’s the point of him? I wanted him to be more troublesome and creepy, but unfortunately he’s just kind of there. Most of the misunderstandings were cleared up pretty fast, so at least it wasn’t too frustrating, and there wasn’t a third act break up which is quite frankly becoming tedious.
I liked both characters, Brogan is a people pleaser, lacking in self confidence, (surprisingly), he’s a sweetheart, kind and loving who just wants to be part of a family. London is sassy and independent, loving and kind and together they make a great couple. It was quite slow burn, which I’m not a fan of, and given this is quite a short book it took too long to get to the fake dating, and then too long for much to happen.
What made the book for me were the performances. If I had been reading this I would have skipped chunks, but listening is a whole different experience. I understand it’s Juno Cooper’s first audio book, and she did a great job. Occasionally her voice was a bit monotone but most of the time it was great. Jacob Morgan of course is my dream narrator and he can do no wrong, ever, in my eyes (or ears) and as such as Brogan he was perfect.
If you like easy listening, with likeable characters, and good supporting characters then give it a go.
A decent listen
