About this listen

A
ND THEN THERE WERE NONE meets THE TRAITORS

Five beautiful couples.
One deadly game.
Who will escape alive?

Lyla Santiago has spent months working on a research project that could be the key to getting a permanent job in her field. So, she can’t really drop everything to go to a desert island with her actor boyfriend Nico to film One Perfect Couple, a new reality TV show that Nico is sure will lead to his big break – can she?

Two weeks later, Lyla finds herself boarding a boat to an isolated luxury resort in the Indian Ocean.

The rules of the game are simple. Ten strangers have to survive together on the island – and the last couple standing scoops the prize. There will be sun, sea, laughs and plenty of flirting. What could possibly go wrong?

But when a huge tropical storm cuts them off from everything, the group must band together. As tensions run high and fresh water runs low, Lyla realises that someone is playing this game for real – and they'll stop at nothing to win.

Ten might have arrived, but who will survive to the end?

Another great thriller from this author, who in the past year has become one of my favourites! This is a story full of twists and turns that will keep you hooked to the last words. Love Imogen Church as a narrator and actually didn’t want the book to end! If you haven’t read any of Ruth Ware’s books before, I would urge you to give this a go and get ready for a thriller to make you stay up all night until you finish it!

Nail biting thriller

‘And then there were none’ is my favourite book ever so this book really intrigued me. It was confusing throughout though and I had to repeat chapters a few times after losing track of the plot!

I normally really enjoy Imogen Church’s narration however her pronounciation of insulin as ‘inshulin’ really grated on me!

A bit confusing but good overall

Enjoyed most chapters. Can’t stand the idiocy of the female characters. It’s just lazy writing in order to move the story along. Please do better.
Last 30 minutes were completely unnecessary, tedious and very long winded. Shame as the premise was very good and there were some excellent moments.

It was pleasant enough

I enjoyed this.

The negatives: It felt long, which I don't mind but could be a sign I wasn't enjoying it. I didn't really get a good sense of who was whom between the various women and men.

The positives: It was a good story and a good premise. I was gripped for much of it. I wanted to know what happened. There were definitely unexpected twists and turns.

Really good but not as good as her other books

I’ve read a few books by this author and this one had all the right ingredients to be a brilliant story, but somehow it just didn’t work for me. I found the heroine completely unbelievable- a research scientist who couldn’t assert herself against her vapid boyfriend - and I didn’t care about what happened to any of the characters. The narration really got in the way of the story, I normally like this narrator but, as another reviewer has said, she made it sound like a 90s sitcom somehow, the narration was just over-acted, however she is very skilled moving between lots of convincing accents. Overall, not one I particularly enjoyed.

Not for me

Imogen is such a fantastic narrator! Ruth Ware has smashed another one out of the park. Building tension and things going places you didn’t expect or just weren’t sure when! She’s so great at building tension then twisting things in a different direction at the last minute. Love it!

Tense, edge of your seat kinda story

unusual plot, very interesting, smart, unbelievable story. I loved narration, can't believe it was single person.

best book in some time

I’m an avid thriller listener but was totally confused by this book…so much so that I had to keep rewinding chapters as I’d lost the plot…literally

Confused

Loved this - so many layers! Reality tv, influencers, misogyny but also survival and relationships. Really enjoyed this rollercoaster!

Exhilarating listen
