Ocean's Echo is a stand-alone romantic space adventure, set in the same universe as Everina Maxwell's hit debut, Winter's Orbit.

When Tennal—a rich socialite, inveterate flirt and walking disaster—is caught using his telepathic powers for illegal activities, the military decides to bind his mind to someone whose coercive powers are strong enough to control him.

Enter Lieutenant Surit, the child of a disgraced general. Out of a desperate need to restore a pension to his other parent, Lieutenant Surit agrees to be bound to Tennal and keep him conscripted in the army, a task that seems impossible even for someone with Surit's ability to control minds.

Tennal just wants to escape, but Surit isn't all that he seems. And their bond may just be the key to their freedom.

The writing/storytelling itself is brilliant, but I dislike the narrator choice. The fake accents are distracting and really don't work.

I suggest reading it rather than listening to it, if you're able to.

The voices employed by Corkhill really did this book a major disservice, especially the one for main character Surit. I suspect that my story rating may have been higher, if I had read the book instead of listening. Serious disappointment.

I disagree with people saying the narrator was a poor choice. His change of tone kept me really interested in the story. Only thing is I don't think Surit's accent was necessary and was confused why it was the same as Jainan's from Winters Orbit. But for me it didn't affect the experience at all and found the narrator good. Very good story and characters and lovely chemistry between Surit and Tenor.🙂

I loved the idea and all the complicated layers added in. I loved the final battles that are still rolling through my head, their sheer magnitude mind boggling. I loved the narrator who kept me hooked and made each character different enough that I could identify them by voice. all in all, I loved it!

Very interesting relationship between main characters. Good to learn more about the world introduced in book one. Overall I thought it was a bit too long and my interest strayed a bit towards the end. Hope there will be more books set in this world. The narrator was very good but his pronunciation of ocean was weird and threw me out of the story every time he said it

I nearly didn't get this because of some complaints about the accent the narrator put on for some of the characters and thank God I didn't listen. I'm guessing the accent throwing people off is the non-british one and honestly the narrator does such a good job in my opinion. So, is it the narrator or do you just not want to hear "accented" (it's all accented for god's sake) English?. Think on that.

For anyone on the fence, get this book. It was a great listen and well worth the credit/run time. Worst case? Return it. It's really not the end of the world.

This book and the writers previous book are firmly in my Favourites collection. The narrator is excellent : I Iike the way characters from different places and social classes have distinctive accents- that is one of the joys of audio books. I enjoyed the pace of narration and expressiveness of the reading.
The universe the story is set in is satisfyingly complex and plot is written skillfully enough to do without long sections of explanation. The characters come across as real people rather than stock figures. Complex politics, battles, coups, alien tech and mind modifications along with a sweet romance and a good dash of humour!

My third listen of the book and enjoyed as much as on the first listen.

Excellent narrator, but not for this book. His style is like he's reading a Regency romance or Shakespeare not an adventure thriller. The style ensures Surit and Tenel sound and act like moody Gen Zees, not military personnel in day to day life interactions. There is a place for high drama but when the whole book is read in that style, it's hard to enjoy the danger/thriller sections when it's all read the same over dramatic way.

The long winded, long book took some endurance and continual attention adjustments to try to keep interested to get to the end. Initially there are some stabs at humour, but wonder if these were accidental aspects or direct inputs from the author as they do not follow in subsequent chapters. It took up to Hour 11 to fully appreciate the true meaning of the roles of architect and reader and the abilities it gives.

If you are expecting a full on MM sex fest, this isn't it. I found myself contrasting the story with Lauran Dohner's excellent and hilarious sci-fi adventure romance: Burning up Flint, where the succinct descriptions of tech and touch on a space mission where the MCs are thrown together, give a forthright directness to the anomaly of the situations, whereas in Ocean's Echo I'm fighting through the flab to reach the issues and relationship.
