Beautiful. That's the word I use to describe this book. The Handmaid's Tale is one of my favourite adult books and the poetic words of Needlework will not disappoint. It was only 5 hours long but a good length and Nora Jane Noone (from film Brooklyn) was the perfect Irish voice to tell this tale. Ces wants to be a tattoo artist and while she learns she accounts all she has been through and tries to make sense of her life since her mother leaves her father after a bad marriage. Although a warning there are some uncomfortable and sensitive issues contained in the book so may not be for everyone.

The narration is meandering, stopping and starting but for me it's what gave it the poetic nature of the story, as if listening to one long monologue. Takes some getting used to but worth it.
