About this listen

In his first memoir, beloved comedian and national treasure Bill Bailey shares stories of his life - and the animals he's met along the way.

Bill Bailey has always had dogs, including a Patterdale terrier called Rocky who would travel with him in the van to his first shows and occasionally join him on stage. Fast forward a few decades and Bill has shared his home with a variety of birds, dogs, frogs, chameleons and an armadillo called Tommy. 'We even had a giant chicken, a huge Malay cockerel called Kid Creole. After a few stand-offs he took against me. He had to go in the end, I was being stalked in my own back garden.'

That chicken apart, animals have always been at the heart of an extraordinary life as one of the nation's favourite comedians, actors, musicians and (thanks to Strictly) dancers: from terriers to the orangutans of Sumatra and the parrots that share his breakfast every morning in west London.

Full of the leftfield humour, wit and wisdom that has made Bill Bailey such a beloved performer around the world, My Animals and Other Animals is the story of Bill's life; but more than that, it's the story of how all of our lives are enriched by the animals who accompany us on that journey.©2024 Bill Bailey (P)2024 Quercus Editions Limited

Listening to Bill Bailey's cheerful and optimistic voice, recalling stories of fun, gentle and magnificent animals, and showing as ever his own kind and joyful nature, was just the balm I needed to get me through a chilly January, and keep me looking forward with anticipation to the joy of nature's return in spring. It also made me want to get a lot more pets.

A joy

Bill nurtures that deep (and in some cases hidden even from ourselves) connection that underpins our very existence - we ARE nature, nature is AWESOME - in the traditional and proper sense of the word and Bill reminds us of this with an appropriate and heartwarming level of humour whilst doing his subject due justice and respect to re-awaken our connection to the wider world and all life itself. Thanks Bill, already listened three times and only purchased last week! x

Really enjoyed this book. Made even better with Bills narration. Could relation to some of his stories.

How similar Rocky was to one of my dogs, Maisy. She loves a good ball and someone to throw it.

Descriptive storytelling with humility & humour. A chapter per animal means you can read in bitesize chunks

What a a wonderful book. Such interesting tales told with love and humour. I'm a nature lover and always appreciate the joy and simplicity a bee, dandelion, bird, dog etc can bring to everyone's life. Thanks Bill, absolutely loved this book.
