About this listen

It took only one night to tear a family apart.

Artist and illustrator Edwina Spinner used to have a busy family life. Now she lives alone in a house that has grown too big for her. She has decided to sell it. As Edwina takes the estate agent from room to room, she finds herself transported back to her life as a young mother. Back to her twins, Rowena and Charlie, and a stepson she cannot bring herself to mention by name. As the house reveals its secrets, Edwina is forced to confront her family's past and a devastating betrayal that changed everything. But Edwina doesn't know the whole story. And to discover the truth, she will have to face the one person she vowed never to see again.

Very enjoyable if you like a complex story of a family across the generations, each of them believable. Well written and well read, so you really want to know what comes next.

High grade chick lit

I found the first third rather boring and was surprised at the change of tone in the second third. I almost stopped listening during this section as I found it sordid and depressing. However the final third somehow brought everything together and made me want to see how the book ended. It looked like it was heading in a certain direction but in the end the expected didn't happen, which was a bit disappointing but probably more true to real life and did leave open the possibility that it might happen in the future, as long as Edwina lives that long! All three narrators were excellent.

Almost gave up!

Wonderfully written and narrated! An amazing storyline and very clearly revealed! Can’t wait to listen to it again, like a good film, I am sure there were little scenes I ‘missed’ the first time.
Loved hearing the different voices and the casting was perfect.

Brilliant

Would recommend strongly. Each phase of the story is compelling and absorbing. Sad when it was finished.

Excellent book

What did you like best about this story?

Not much really, couldn't even finish the last half an hour or so

Any additional comments?

Having thoroughly enjoyed vanilla cream slices I was disappointed with this. There were NO Sympathetic characters except the black nanny and she was only sketchy. All the others were thoroughly unpleasant and unlikeable, complete idiots or nasty pieces of work

Unlikeable characters

I’m really enjoying this book. It’s simply wonderful and has kept my buds glued to my ears for hours.

Edwina is selling up her house and she starts to clear it out and that’s what the book is about ..skeletons start rattling in long forgotten cupboards and fears are faced. The reader goes right back in time with Edwina and we feel her grief, pain, happiness as the story goes on.

This book is on my best book list of 2019 and I will look out for more from both the author and narrator.

Bought as a DD.

Wonderful book ...my best listen of 2019.

What a wonderful book. The narration is just great. Richard Allan Turner has such a fabulous voice. The story took me by surprise, there was a pleasant stroll through Edwina's house then the story took off at a gallop. A trip through the 1970's. A real soul searching story. Made me laugh, occasionally gasp and even sob gently. A treasure of a story, very well written. Loved it.

Lived it, a fabulous story.

Brilliant. Well defined characters who's individual actions impact on each other to weave an interesting story.

Not what I expected!

If you could sum up Moving in three words, what would they be?

Moving; moving; moving.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Moving?

The final confession.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Controlled and quiet. The story speaks for itself.,

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, again and again.

Any additional comments?

The opening chapter was a tad slow and I nearly gave up, but so glad I didn't. Wonderfully rich characterisation creating a total immersion in the lives and facets of the main protagonists. Many human traits common to us all scarily recognisable. A sweeping, tough, uncompromising family drama of great depth and sensitivity. Read (listen to) it and weep.

Do not pass this one by.
